Lompoc Valley Medical Center is Hiring a Clinical Applications Trainer Near Lompoc, CA

Salary Range: $48.59 - $66.96

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

  • Under the general supervision of the Chief Information Officer, the Clinical Applications Trainer conducts Electronic Medical Record System clinical level training classes required for nursing and medical staff.
  • Creates and maintains training documents.
  • Individual performs quality control checks on program changes or upgrades prior to the district release, and writes policies and procedures that address such changes.
  • Routinely audits HIS documentation by clinical staff for accurate, timely, complete and appropriate entries. Reports assessment findings and forwards recommendations to department managers.

Position Duties/Responsibility:

  • Supports the Information Systems Department from 8:00 to 5:00 PM weekdays, with occasional after hours and weekend support.
  • Public Speaking in a training environment.
  • In conjunction with LVMC contracted HIS and clinical application vendors, individual will assist in system upgrades, problem determination, system design, program testing, and performing quality control checks on programs and applications. This individual must be able and willing to communicate and provide assistance to all hospital associates as it relates to the IS clinical applications.
  • Train new employees on the operational aspects of the HIS and associated systems, as it pertains to the new hires role at LVMC.
  • Assist in creating and/or updating training documentation and manuals.
  • Function proficiently in common desktop applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Flexible in attitude, able to manage daily changing priorities, able to multi-task many projects, support challenging user (irate, rude, poor communicators), function in a team environment, and operate with little supervision.
  • Participates in the development, revision, and enforcement of policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility. Assist user departments in developing and integrating related procedures for their areas.
  • Responsible for meeting JCAHO requirements in the areas of training, education, and use of IS Clinical applications.
  • Act as departmental liaison consulting with user personnel to explore information system needs and to identify and define areas of improvement. This individual will relate user needs and concerns to appropriate Information System personnel for further action and/or resolution.
  • Assist and define/refine Information Systems Policies and Procedures on an annual basis.
  • Keeps confidential information and data inaccessible to unauthorized personnel.
  • Maintains key clinical application system files in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Interact with all associates, guests, and physicians in a courteous, respectful, and friendly manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to instruct in a repetitive method.
  • The ability to meet all functions noted on Job Description.
  • The ability to function unsupervised.
  • Work as a team member.
  • Posses consistent positive personal interactions with staff, physicians, patients/residents and visitors.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through the completion of a Bachelors degree in Nursing.
  • Five or more years active and progressive experience in Medical Informatics, or Information Systems in a clinical environment.

Experience:

  • Instructor or Teacher level experience.
  • Five or more years active and progressive experience in an Information Systems in a healthcare setting.
  • Project management skills necessary to coordinate multi-phase, multi-disciplined projects working with all level of Hospital staff.
  • Training and Education skills necessary to teach Clinical Information System basic concepts and related courses in IT Clinical application usage.
  • Familiar with the JCAHO survey process and the components within the regulations associated with Information Management.

Certifications:

  • Instructor Training Certifications a plus.

Skills/Ability:

  • Ability to follow through all tasks assigned.
  • Ability to follow direction and accomplish tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multi-task, supporting several clients needs in a timely manner.
  • Express systems and applications in lay terminology and perform liaison responsibilities, i.e. elicit user problems and needs.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with all levels of hospital personnel on a one-on-one and group basis, using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and word usage.
  • Finger dexterity, motor coordination, hand-to-eye coordination, color distinction, visual acuity, talking, sitting, handling, lifting, pushing, hearing, balancing, competitive motions, stooping, bending, carrying, kneeling, clerical perception.
  • The use of independent judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to protect the confidential information.
  • Analytical ability to participate in the development of policies and procedures as they relate to the medically trained staff members.
  • Determine user needs from process descriptions.
  • Analytical skills that demonstrate a high level of problem identification, evaluation, and conflict resolution capability.
