Tentative Testing Schedule for this Recruitment: Qualifications Appraisal Interview Date: June 26, 2024 EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS In order to be considered for this position, applicants must provide detailed information on their application to demonstrate how they meet the employment standards (Minimum Qualifications for Education and Experience and Licenses and other Requirements) shown below: Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year as a journey-level painter or two years as a Maintenance worker with the Lompoc Unified School District in an area in which the incumbent has acquired journey-level skill in this trade.Licenses and other RequirementsValid California Class C driver’s license.Respirator Fit Test Certificate.Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.TB Clearance.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under the direction of Director of Maintenance and Operations, provide skilled painting services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and maintenance needs; prepare, paint and stain a variety of surfaces; ensure completion of projects in accordance with trade standards; assist other skilled trades; ensure that tools and materials are available at job site.Prepare various surfaces such as wood, concrete, metal and plaster for surface coverings; remove existing paint as necessary; patch and plaster holes; remove dents and sand rough surfaces; plan and lay out work.Paint designated buildings, facilities, furniture and equipment to maintain proper appearance and protection from rust and decay; cover or remove graffiti from walls, doors and windows; utilize chemicals as needed.Operate a brush, roller or spray gun to apply a variety of surface coverings such as paint, varnish, enamel, lacquer or other protective or decorative finishes to a variety of surfaces, including wood, metal, glass, plaster, stucco, wallboard, brick, cement and roofs.Estimate labor, material and equipment needed for assigned projects; monitor inventory levels of supplies and equipment; order, receive and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment as directed.Mix and match paint and finishes to blend, harmonize or contrast colors; apply primers and finish coats; create vinyl signs using a computerPatch walls and repair wall coverings as needed; repair sheetrock, masonry and other building materials; refinish or repaint wood, furniture and other equipment as needed.Monitor buildings and facilities; preserve and protect facilities; evaluate condition, identify necessary repairs and recommend preventive maintenance.Clean and maintain brushes, tools and other equipment; erect, move and work from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Coordinate with supervisor and other trades; complete projects and work orders efficiently.Estimate labor, materials and equipment needed to compete work projects; obtain materials and assigning tasks to ensure job completion.Maintain Paint Booth usage information; provide data used in preparation of annual report to Air Pollution/Control District (APED).Maintain vehicle, tools and equipment such as clean brushes and sprayers; ensure availability in safe operating condition.Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars; convey and gather information required to perform job functions.Request equipment and supplies; maintain inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and repair.Transport a variety of tools, equipment and supplies; ensure the availability of materials required at job site; drive a vehicle to conduct work.OTHER DUTIES: Perform related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Ability to: Perform a variety of journey-level duties in the painting of designated buildings and facilities and preparation of related surfaces.Mix and apply paints or other surface coatings to buildings, equipment and furniture.Operate and maintain tools, equipment and machinery used in the painting trade.Observe health and safety regulations and procedures.Plan and lay out painting work.Erect and work from ladders and scaffolding.Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Work cooperatively with others.Meet schedules and time lines.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Work independently with little direction.Maintain various records related to work performed.
