Job Summary: The Director-Radiation Medicine oversees Radiation Medicine Clinics and related treatment areas and Proton Therapy Services in a Magnet Recognized large tertiary academic medical center with multiple outpatient oncology clinics licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). Demonstrates judicious business acumen and provides proactive administrative, human resource, financial, and multidisciplinary clinical management for multiple cost centers to meet the demands of cutting- edge oncology healthcare delivery to patients of all ages. Works collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President, Medical Directors, medical staff and multidisciplinary healthcare team to define, focus integrate and coordinate the full continuum of care for a culturally diverse patient population with cancer requiring radiation treatment or proton therapy. Directs the day- to-day operations based on the needs of the patient population served, established professional practice model (Duffy Quality-Caring Model), applicable regulatory standards and requirements, and approved clinical practice standards, policies and procedures. Ensures patient-centric and goal-oriented patient care by competent staff during department hours of operation. Ensures international patient referrals are handled and processed in a timely manner in accordance with established policies and procedures. Exhibits mission-focused thinking and participates in the strategic planning process and aligns service goals and objectives with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Displays in-depth knowledge of all applicable state and federal regulatory standards, ensures compliance with regulations and maintains survey-readiness at all times. Actively supports the continuous journey to create a culture that has the best patient outcomes and work environment. Supports clinical and translational research activities and participates in Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved research that improves outcomes and quality or life for cancer patients. Inspires nursing excellence and participates in maintaining Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and strives to exceed customer expectations by modeling leadership behavior in the context of institutional values, empowerment, alignment, creativity and education. Exhibits effective leadership skills that embrace team members that are not direct reports. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Nursing required, or Bachelor’s in Nursing and a Master's in Healthcare, Finance or Education required, or Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology, Healthcare Administration, Business, or other related field and completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology Program required. Master's Degree in Business, Health Care Administration, or other related field preferred. Five years of leadership experience required.Knowledge and Skills: Substantial knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations, finance, performance improvement, quality, patient safety, evidenced-based clinical practice standards, medical staff structure and legal aspects of care required. Extensive knowledge of radiation medicine and proton therapy required. Exhibits professional behavior at all times. Able to speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; communicate effectively in person, in writing and on the telephone; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; use sound judgment based on factual information and clinical knowledge; work independently with minimal supervision; demonstrate excellent skills in time management; meet deadlines; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve in a proactive and creative manner; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; exhibit professional behavior at all times.
Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required, and Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification preferred, or California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) certification and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification required.
