UH: Operating Room (Full-Time, Day Shift) -

The Supervisor-Surgical Suite Utilization functions effectively in a fast-paced academic medical center with level one trauma designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center designation and comprehensive stroke center accreditation. Oversees utilization of operating room suites in multiple hospitals and one outpatient surgery center under Loma Linda University Medical Center license. Reviews surgery schedule on a daily basis and identifies opportunities to compress the schedule to optimizes patient flow and throughput for surgical patients at all sites based on level of care required, type of surgery, expected surgery duration, instrumentation needed, surgeon availability, location capacity, staff resource availability, level one trauma designation requirements and hours of operation. Communicates changes and schedule adjustments with surgeons, anesthesiologists, charge nurses and schedulers as needed to maintain patient flow. Serves as liaison among operating room leadership, anesthesia, surgeons, emergency department leadership and case managers. Complies with all regulatory requirements and department and organizational policies. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing required or an Associate's Degree in nursing with a Bachelor's Degree in a non-nursing field and a Master's degree in nursing required. Minimum of two years nursing experience in perioperative services required. Minimum of one year of prior management or supervisory experience preferred. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required.

Knowledge of perioperative services patient flow and operating room suite utilization. Demonstrates competencies in perioperative nursing, operating room scheduling, leadership and communications skills required. Knowledge of healthcare law and finance preferred. Able to: read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate and/or troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; communicate effectively in English in person, in writing and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors on computer screens; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; read documents necessary to the position.
