Summary/Objective:

Under general direction, performs skilled plumbing work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of gas, water, sewer lift stations, water wells, and irrigation; and performs related duties as required.

Essential Functions:

• Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes
• Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required, andsequence of installations.
• Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe
• Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
• Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
• Uses hand tools and power tools,
• Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine
• Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipebending machine, or by placing pipe over block and bending it by handAssembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic
• Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints,
• Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking
• Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners
• Replaces washers in leaky faucets, mends burst pipes, and opens clogged drains
• May weld holding fixtures to steel structural members

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
• Required Education and Experience:
• High school or vocational school graduate or possession of a GED equivalency certificate. Completion of formal technical training desirable or demonstration of comparable on-the-job training through an apprenticeship program.
• Work requires a basic practical knowledge of several maintenance trades. Proficient in the use of the tools, equipment, machines, and materials of various trades. Additional qualifications include general knowledge of terminology used by various maintenance trades.
