Logistics Management Institute is Hiring a GIS Specialist Near Washington, DC

Overview

LMI seeks GIS specialists to support a federal program management office. Join our team of collaborative self-starters focused on delivering practical and efficient solutions to help our client achieve objectives. As part of our high-performing team, you will augment our vital work to provide “eyes and ears” technology to protect our nation.

Responsibilities

You will collect and manage geospatial data to support the efforts of a federal program management office. This entails researching, collecting, managing, analyzing, writing, and presenting geospatial data, as well as publishing layers onto a federally shared Esri Enterprise Geospatial Portal. Specific responsibilities: 

  • Researching potential federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial (FSLTT) data providers and/or commercially licensed data providers that may hold potentially useful data layers for wider mission partners.
  • Researching historical portal data providers and prioritizing data layer updates.
  • Develop visualizations and documentation of information for management decision-making. 
  • Creating and maintaining standardized metrics for data intake steps and procedures for quality data reviews and evaluations. 
  • Report metrics on project-specific data analysis. 
  • Be available for discussing issues or management office requirements with data providers. 
  • Have knowledge of dataset attribution and metadata quality and standards. 
  • Identify and address data integrity challenges. 
  • Develop recommendations to improve data quality, accuracy, periodicity, management, analysis, and visualization. 
  • Manage multiple geospatial product and data teams. 
  • Assisting in the creation of a data management database. 
  • Will assist with documenting new and changing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), processes and workflows to ensure mission continuity. 
  • Through expertise, be willing to assist with the testing and implementation of new geospatial infrastructure.
  • Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance abuse, and employment verifications. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience or Master’s degree and 5 years of experience 
  • Degree in geography, cartography, environmental science, information technology (IT) or a related discipline; professional certification in GIS (e.g., GIS Professional, Esri Technical Certification in ArcGIS, or similar) preferred. 
  • Knowledge of GIS technologies.
  • Experience managing GIS data and using GIS tools (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Survey123, and Esri Enterprise Portal).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and JIRA. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders. 
  • Ability to effectively solve problems. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • A true team player who maintains a positive attitude in a dynamic environment 
  • Ability to pass a government background investigation (US citizenship required).
