Lodestar Children's Services is Hiring a Youth Peer Support Specialist Near Bay Shore, NY

As per NYS: Youth Peer Support Specialists MUST be between the ages of 18-29.

Qualification: "Young people ages 12-29 with a disability, emotional & behavioral challenges, or experience in New York State systems such as Special Education, Juvenile Justice, Foster Care, or Addiction Recovery"

Description: Providers must have lived experience, please see the qualifications below for a definition of lived experience. Support children in need towards achieving optimal functioning as a 1:1 worker in homes and communities. Work occurs in a variety of settings where the child lives, works, attends school, engages in services, and/or socializes. Common tasks include supporting skill development, teaching personalized coping strategies (such as self-care routines and meditation skills), and improving effective communication within their families and communities.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an individual 18 to 30 years old who self-identifies as a person who has first-hand experience with social, emotional, medical, and/or behavioral challenges, and has experience receiving mental health services. An applicant must be able to positively reflect on and share their own life experiences.
  • Must have a minimum of a High-School diploma or GED
  • We are looking for applicants with a valid driver's license, vehicle, and insurance.
  • You must clear the State Child Abuse Registry, fingerprinting for criminal history, and other background requirements.

Schedule: Dependent on the needs of our families and service providers. The ideal candidate has the ability to work from 2 pm - 7pm due to clients being school aged and typically in school during the day. Flexibility in scheduling makes it easy for our workers to attend school or have multiple jobs. Weekend availability is optional.

Location: Our offices are based in Bohemia, Long Island; however, we serve families across all of Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn and are currently looking for workers based in all of our service areas.

Salary: $22.50-26.00 per service hour with an opportunity to increase to $27-30 an hour after 3 months. The pay rate is per-diem and based on education, training, and experience. Staff is also reimbursed for some mileage and expenses.
