Job Description: Summer Analyst (2024)
Office: Boston, MA [must have U.S. Citizenship or Green Card- U.S. only]
Locust Walk is seeking students graduating in 2025 to join our team in Summer 2024!
Overview
Locust Walk is an investment bank that integrates the best of strategy consulting with strategic transactions and capital raising for innovative life science companies. We support management and board members through all aspects of the full deal cycle from outreach to term sheet structuring to negotiating to close. We have offices in Boston, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and London working with clients throughout the world.
Responsibilities:
The Summer Analyst supports the Deal Team on active transactions and will work on projects which provide exposure to the biopharma and financing business development landscape.
Play a key role in executing the firms engagements including but not limited to:
Business development and strategic transactions, including buy-side and sell-side partnership agreements in M&A
Capital markets and financings, including venture-backed private rounds and IPO advisory
Corporate development and strategic analysis, including commercial assessments and portfolio prioritization
Key activities for transaction work include:
Financial analysis and valuation modeling in support of deal negotiations
Revenue and P&L modeling
Leading analysis of secondary sources
Due diligence
Discussions with key opinion leaders
Precedent transaction analysis
Production of marketing materials (e.g., product teasers, presentations)
Development of commercial presentation
Identification of target partners
Maintaining contact logs and board update materials
Contributing to practice development activities including but not limited to:
Maintaining and updating an active database of target assets and partner interests
Maintaining and updating an active database of transaction work
Participation in Locust Walk networking events with life science executives
Qualifications:
Professional and Academic Prowess. All our team members have different strengths that contribute to the success of our firm. The background for a Summer Analyst position would ideally illustrate the following attributes:
Passion for life science transactions: some relevant industry experience is preferred
Successful track record working on transactions in the life science space: working directly or in a supportive role to close strategic transactions, M&A, and/or financings is helpful
First-rate education: strong academic track record; working toward a degree in life sciences
Skills:
Basic understanding of financial modeling, including P&L, BS, cash flow statements, and DCF models
Strong communication skills and comfort presenting in front of company management, Board, and speaking directly with physicians and other key opinion leaders
Excellent written and oral presentation skills
Either a proven track record of working with and managing teams or relevant leadership skills that demonstrate an ability to do so successfully
Personal Attributes:
Self-starter with a strong work ethic who is willing to do what it takes to get the job done
Poised professional who effectively collaborates and communicates with other team members, clients, and prospective partners
High-integrity individual who puts clients interests first and is transparent in his/her communications

Compensation and Future Opportunities:
The Summer Analyst will receive a competitive base salary for the summer and first in line consideration for a full-time position with the firm upon graduation. Thereafter, full time Analysts have the opportunity to move quickly through their path to promotion based on meeting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) clearly established by Locust Walk. This internship is a 10-week program running from June to August.
