We are looking to fill the role of a Mid-level Structural Engineer in Arlington, VA for our Safety practice. The Mid-level Structural Engineer will analyze, design, plan, and create structural components and structural systems as they lead fall protection design projects for LJB clients.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs QC reviews and oversight of project calculations and deliverables
  • Assists with the preparation of construction documents such as those needed for installation of fall protection systems.
  • Coordinates with design staff to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
  • Prepares calculations detailing engineering design.
  • May coordinate projects by communicating with clients regarding project issues and attend meetings.
  • Begins to help develop internal teams to successfully complete projects by creating plans, setting priorities and deadlines.
  • Responsible for maintaining own technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, attending in-house systems/management training (LJB provided).

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Willingness to travel (overnight stays based on supported projects) to various US-based locations
  • Ability to analyze situations and identify ways to improve efficiency.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.
  • ERP experience required, Deltek Vantagepoint preferred.
  • Understanding/Training in OSHA/ANSI fall protection standards
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug tests and MVR check
  • Other duties as assigned.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4 years’ engineering experience possessing knowledge and experience in design of structural engineering projects, fall protection preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or architectural engineering with structural emphasis required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) required; Structural Engineer (SE) preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of industry codes and standards such as OSHA 1926 and ANSI Z359 preferred.
  • CAD experience (Revit and Bluebeam preferred) STRAP or other structural analysis software experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
