Livingston HealthCare is Hiring a Surgical Services Scrub Technician in Training- Temporary Position-Internal Only Near Livingston, MT

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-driven individual for on-the-job training for a surgical scrub technician in training role. This individual will always be under the direct tutelage of a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). This is a temporary position. For each year in the temporary scrub tech training position, the scrub tech in training agrees to provide surgical services with an additional year of full-time employment.

The surgical scrub tech in training agrees to enroll in an accredited CST program approved by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within 1 year of hire to begin work towards CST certification. Once the individual completes the accredited CST program, the individual may apply for the permanent full time Surgical Scrub Technologist position with its associated compensations.

The expectation is that the surgical scrub technician successfully passes his or her CST certification exam by the third year of combined employment in the Surgical Scrub Technician in Training position and the Surgical Scrub Technologist position. If the individual does not successfully pass the CST exam after 2 attempts, the feasibility of remaining employed with surgical services will be evaluated by OR Leadership.

Schedule:

  • 0.75 FTE (Full Time)
  • 3-ten hour shifts 0630 – 1700 per week
  • This position will require buddy-call as part of the training to educate the surgical scrub tech regarding after hours procedures and urgent/emergent processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Open communication skills with a strong desire to learn evidenced by thoughtful questions.
  2. Prepare OR suite ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
  3. Under the direct guidance of the CST preceptor, act as scrub assistant to the surgeon, anticipating his/her needs, and implementing the principles and skills of surgical asepsis in performing surgical procedures.
  4. Promote the economic and efficient operation of the operating rooms by for the intended procedure, selecting equipment and supplies and maintaining the cleanliness of the room in preparation for the next procedure.
  5. Be proactive to ensure individual skills and knowledge are current regarding procedures, techniques, instruments, and equipment.
  6. Monitor the sterile field to ensure maintenance of the sterile environment.
  7. Accept accountability for your own actions.
  8. Work collaboratively with the surgeon, anesthesia, CSTs, and OR RNs as an integral part of the surgical team.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. OR set up and post-operative room cleaning, including weekly terminal cleaning.
  2. Instrument cleaning including scope processing.
  3. Pull for cases including soft goods and instrumentation.
  4. Monitor outdates, and alert leadership of expired materials.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

  1. High school diploma or equivalency.
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (within 6 months of hire)
  3. Strong communication and collaboration skills
  4. Ability to remain calm under pressure
  5. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  6. Enrollment in an accredited CST program approved by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within 1 year of hire

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current BLS
  2. Knowledge of instrument terminology and ability to identify instruments by name
  3. Knowledge of aseptic technique
