Livingston Educational Service Agency is Hiring a Program Consultant for Autism Spectrum Disorder Near Howell, MI

Position SummaryThis role provides crucial support and consultation for instructional programs involving both general and special education, working closely with teachers, staff, students, and families. The position focuses on implementing evidenced-based strategies from programs like START, ICT, and Project ImPACT to ensure the effectiveness of educational interventions.

  • Provides consultation to education personnel, advocating for student’s needs.
  • Supports START, ICT, and Project ImPACT initiatives through training, coaching, and other assistance to ensure fidelity in implementation.
  • Collaborate on teams to analyze student-level data, identify learning or behavioral difficulties, and implement appropriate evidenced-based interventions.
  • Assist both general and special education staff in creating inclusive environments for students.
  • Facilitate referrals of students to agencies and specialists within the community as necessary.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on research-based practices and serve as a knowledgeable resource for students, staff and families.
  • Actively participate the Livingston Educational Autism Network (LEAN) as a local representative.
  • Support students and staff through school-based transitions.
  • Implement and oversee peer-to-peer programs within the local district
Education/Experience
  • Master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
  • Minimum of three years satisfactory teaching experience, or at least five years of experience implementing research-based strategies to address challenging behaviors.
  • Training in START, Instructional Consultation Teams (or similar problem-solving model), and Project ImPACT required.
  • Experience training in one or more of the START modules preferred. Strong background and knowledge base of working with individuals with Autism
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education.
  • Teacher Consultant eligibility preferred. Candidates with certification in a related special education field and a minimum of five years of working with students with Autism will also be considered.
  • Non-teacher certification candidates must meet certification requirements for specific disciplines per Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) rules and regulations as well as any additional approval requirements in order to maintain professional licensure.
RequiredOTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain confidential when exposed to sensitive information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and demonstrate flexibility A minimum of 1-year of experience.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of school districts and communities is preferred.
  • Experience working with Head Start/Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) families.
  • CPR certified.
Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
