KPCW, located in Park City, Utah, is a non-profit public radio station dedicated to keeping local residents informed, educated and entertained. As a vital source of news, music, and community information, KPCW serves as a cornerstone for the community through exceptional programming and outreach initiatives.
As we continue to grow and evolve, KPCW seeks a visionary leader to step into the role of President and General Manager. This individual will be instrumental in guiding the station towards new opportunities for innovation, funding, and community service, ensuring KPCW remains at the forefront of public broadcasting in an ever-changing media landscape. The successful candidate will demonstrate a robust track record of strategic leadership and a deep commitment to the values of public media.
The next President and General Manager of KPCW will be entrusted with several critical areas of focus to enhance the station's impact and sustainability. A paramount responsibility will be a strong sense of financial stewardship, including excelling in fundraising efforts. The successful leader must be capable of forging robust relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making institutions, expanding the financial base to support ambitious projects and ongoing operations.
Additionally, the leader will be tasked with prioritizing digital transformation at the station and exploring alternative media streams, ensuring KPCW adapts to changing consumption habits and remains accessible across multiple platforms. Furthermore, the commitment to producing compelling local news that resonates with and serves the needs of our community is essential. This role requires a leader who can innovate while preserving the trust and integrity that KPCW has established over the years.
About the area
Park City, along with Summit and Wasatch counties, offer a unique blend of breathtaking natural beauty and vibrant cultural richness, making it an exceptional place to live and work. Salary: $125,000 - $150,000
Together the Board and Staff of KPCW have developed the profile of the ideal next leader for the station. We will select from candidates that have the most highly developed skills and attributes in these areas:
Community Relationships/Public Presence:
Given the close knit nature of KPCW's coverage area, the next leader of should be a collaborative and inclusive partner who can build and maintain positive relationships with individuals, other media outlets, civic organizations, educational institutions, and cultural groups. The successful candidate will also be a person who:
  • Represents KPCW at public events, exuding a professional demeanor while effectively communicating the station's values and mission;
  • Demonstrates ease and confidence in public speaking, capable of delivering clear, engaging presentations to audiences of all sizes;
  • Maintains a strong, positive image that reflects well on the station, ensuring all public interactions align with KPCW's brand and ethical standards;
  • Cultivates relationships with key community leaders and stakeholders, leveraging these connections to further the station's outreach and impact;
  • Participates in fundraising events, adept at articulating the importance of public support for community-based broadcasting;
  • Regularly updates and informs the community about station initiatives, progress, and events through accessible and compelling public announcements.
Fundraising:
KPCW seeks an effective fundraiser who is knowledgeable of and expert at the President and General Manager role in fundraising and resource development, who:
  • Has a demonstrated record of success with major donor fundraising;
  • Is effective as a mission spokesperson and at relationship management aspects of fundraising, both individual and institutional;
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of public media fundraising strategies and methods;
  • Is creative and capable of conceiving and developing alternative revenue streams.

Industry Knowledge:
Our expectation is to attract a person with an expert level of knowledge and media savvy, including trends in technology and consumption of media (digital, broadcast, podcasting) who:
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of social media trends and effectively utilizes platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for audience engagement and content distribution;
  • Develops and manages digital campaigns that effectively promote station content and initiatives across multiple digital platforms;
  • Has a high level of understanding of the importance, issues and trends of localism, and ability to lead KPCW in this area;
  • Possesses a deep understanding of public radio programming and the elements that engage and retain listeners;
  • Collaborates with hosts, producers, and other creative talent to develop innovative and informative programming that stands out in the media landscape;
  • Is skilled at providing strategic management, including investment decisions related to maintaining effectiveness of our studio, geographically dispersed television transmitting and digital capacity;
  • Engages in continuous learning to stay abreast of emerging digital technologies and media channels, ensuring the station remains competitive and relevant in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
Journalistic Expertise
With a strong track record of producing exceptional local news content, the next President and General Manager must be able to:
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of journalism ethics, ensuring all reporting is impartial, accurate, and fair;
  • Maintain expertise in investigative journalism, skilled in researching, fact-checking, and crafting in-depth reports that illuminate complex issues;
  • Keep abreast of current events and industry trends to ensure reporting is relevant and proactive;
  • Exhibit proficiency in a variety of media formats, including audio, digital, and social media, to effectively reach and interact with diverse audiences;
  • Implement rigorous editorial standards to maintain the quality and credibility of all content produced;
  • Collaborate effectively with editors, producers, and other journalists to produce high-quality journalistic content that aligns with the station's mission;
  • Engage in continuous learning to enhance journalistic skills and adapt to evolving media landscapes.
Communication:
To lead and represent KPCW in various arenas, we seek a person with highly developed public and private interpersonal skills, who:
  • Exhibits excellent verbal communication skills, capable of articulating ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences;
  • Utilizes effective listening skills to understand and address the needs and concerns of colleagues, community members, and stakeholders;
  • Is an organized thinker, effective writer and speaker;
  • Facilitates effective team communication, ensuring all members are informed, engaged, and motivated;
  • Is an effective spokesperson for the organization.

  • A record of community engagement and collaboration and of developing partnerships with individuals and organizations;
  • A high level of energy for visiting stakeholders across the service area, as well as authentic enthusiasm for the entire Park City/ Summit and Wasatch county region.
