About the Job

General Statement of Responsibilities (broad definition):

This position has the responsibility for leading operations in coordination with the Assistant Manager Dental Operations, Administration in overseeing the day-to-day activities and operations of the practice and promoting a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.

This position will also work as a dental hygienist in the Boynton Dental Clinic.

Supervision & Assistant Manager Responsibilities - 40%

  • Has primary responsibility for staff scheduling in coordination with the Assistant Manager Dental Operations, Administration of dental providers, hygienists and dental assistants in the dental clinic.
  • Assign, schedule and direct work of hygienists.
  • Review and approve requests for time off from dental hygienists.
  • Coordinates hiring, onboarding, screening and interviewing applicants for dental hygienist positions, recommends those to be hired, directs and participates in the training and orienting of new employees.
  • Works with the dentists, specialists, hygienists, dental assistants and Dental Director to utilize the staff efficiently to develop their abilities and skills.
  • Maintains overall management of equipment to ensure proper working order, preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Oversees ordering of supplies and instruments.

Regulatory Compliance with Infection Prevention - 20%

  • Has primary responsibility for coordinating accreditation efforts for the Dental Clinic.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with established infection prevention dental clinic standards
  • Work directly with Boynton's Infection Preventionist to implement patient and staff safety standards in the dental clinic
  • Oversight of sterilization process for dental equipment and/or dental liaison with sterilization technician for dental clinic

Dental Hygienist Responsibilities -- 40%

  • Performs preliminary examination of the oral cavity and surrounding structures
  • Gives partial or complete prophylactic care and treatment to dental patients. Examines and cleans teeth. Treats gums and cares for other oral conditions in accordance with the instructions of a dentist. Instructs patients in oral and dental hygiene
  • Takes dental x-rays of patients' mouths. Makes impressions and dental study models
  • Assists dentists in examining, treating and caring for dental patients. Prepares the patient for the dentist and lays out required instruments and supplies
  • Prepares the dental chair for the next patient. Sterilizes and cares for dental instruments, supplies and medications. Requisitions needed supplies.
  • Makes dietary analysis, salivary analysis and prepares smears.
  • Work is performed under the supervision of a dentist who gives instructions on all teeth cleaning and oral treatment. Work is reviewed while in progress by the dentist for quality and efficiency and upon completion for conformance to instructions
  • Established policies, practices and procedures are closely followed.
  • May supervise student employees

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited course in dental hygiene and Minnesota licensure and a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 6 years.
  • Knowledge and experience in regulatory compliance, and in other areas such as infection prevention, OSHA standards, and accreditation in a dental clinical practice
  • Effective leadership, verbal and written communication skills, able to adapt communication style depending on audience
  • Effective at managing time and prioritizing responsibilities; able to create systems and streamline work
  • Functions well in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Collaborative approach to working with other departments at Boynton Health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or BA in related field
  • Experience supervising clinical staff in a dental clinic setting
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
