Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate bilingual Spanish/English substance abuse counselor to join our team. As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. Your expertise and counseling skills will help clients on their journey to recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations to assess clients' substance abuse history and treatment needs
- Develop personalized treatment plans based on clients' specific needs and goals
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address substance abuse issues
- Utilize behavioral therapy techniques to help clients modify their behaviors and develop healthier coping mechanisms
- Assist clients in identifying triggers and developing relapse prevention strategies
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as social workers and medical staff, to ensure comprehensive care for clients
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, including progress notes and treatment plans
- Stay informed about the latest research, trends, and best practices in substance abuse counseling
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of substance abuse disorders, treatment modalities, and recovery principles
- Proficiency in medical terminology related to substance abuse treatment
- Strong counseling skills, including active listening, empathy, and effective communication
- Ability to conduct crisis interventions when necessary
- Familiarity with coding systems such as ICD-9 for accurate documentation and billing purposes
- Experience in providing addiction counseling and working with individuals with co-occurring disorders (e.g., PTSD)
- Excellent assessment skills for conducting diagnostic evaluations
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field
- Valid certification or license as a Substance Abuse Counselor, License Counselor or Licensed Social Worker (e.g., CSAC, LCDC or LCSW, LPC)
- Previous experience working in a substance abuse treatment setting is preferred
