    05/13/2024 This dynamic person would join a large team that works closely to support young adults, 18-21 years of age, with a wide range of disabilities. Paraprofessionals assist in planning and implementing educational, vocational and recreational programs while promoting positive behavior and social skills, assisting students with functional daily living skills, personal care and overall mental and physical health of students. Staff support students in a variety of community based activities each day focusing on individual growth and development related to their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Teaching in a student’s natural environment allows students to access public transportation, pedestrian training, functional academic skills and therapeutic activities. Staff focus on promoting an individual level of independence for each student.
    Experience working with young adults with a wide range of disabilities is preferred. Candidate must be a strong team player with effective communication skills between staff, students and families. Paraprofessionals work under the supervision of licensed staff. We are seeking a candidate who displays high energy, flexibility, creativity, problem solving skills and a strong desire to work in challenging situations.
    CPR/First Aid Certification is required in addition to CPI Training/Certification.
    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • At least one year of experience in working with youth with special needs
    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Criminal background check required for hire.
    • CPR and First Aid certifications required within two months after hire.
    • District medical training required within two months after hire.
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) required within 12 months after hire.
    • May need to complete coursework or pass appropriate test to comply with NCLB standards as a requirement for continued employment.
    Starting salary for this position is a Grade 6 at $21.46 per hour.
    There are 2 positions available:7.5 hrs/day and 4.5 hrs/day - both are on a 181 day calendar.
