JOB GOAL

To develop, instruct, and collect data on students in the areas of education, behavior, and social skills to reintegrate them to a public school campus.

SUMMARY:

The vision of the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy is to leverage support from students, staff, families and community stakeholders to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences to grow and equip leaders who will shape and impact the world in positive ways. Lacey Academy seeks to provide a rigorous, structured academic setting where leaders learn and learners lead. Learners at Lacey will benefit from a rich collection of opportunities designed to equip them with the necessary tools to lead within and beyond the walls of the school so that they are able to positively impact their communities and society.

Success and achievement should be predictable experiences among school stakeholders that can be replicated and extended. This lies at the heart of a culture of wellness. We believe that all students can learn and that they deserve a quality educational experience in a safe environment. Furthermore, we believe in the collective capacity of educators to ensure that every learner is exposed to high-quality learning at or above their present grade level in every classroom, every day. Using quality, grade level instruction, coupled with engaging, meaningful, and affirmative educational experiences, we will cultivate and nurture an environment that celebrates the diverse strengths of our learners to build and grow prepared and healthy people so they can achieve success at high levels, both at school and in the community.

With the School Wellness Wheel framework as our foundation, the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy will serve as a beacon to stakeholders and an avenue to addressing trauma, promoting wellbeing, and elevating learning for all. This will be done through giving deliberate intention to implementing school-wide systems that embody mastery-based learning opportunities, a growth-based educational approach, and strength-based instruction in every classroom. Learners will engage in high levels of hands-on experiences, real world investigations, and applied literacy and mathematics learning. Students at Lacey will have opportunities to engage in structured science, technology, reading/writing, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STREAM) experiences from kindergarten through eighth grade, building a strong cohort of leaders who possess 21st Century skills for collaborative problem-solving, technological literacy, and career-readiness.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Participate and successfully complete the required on-boarding and professional development boot-camp beginning July, 2024 and continuing throughout the school year, both on and off contract.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. 
  2. Current Arkansas certification in Special Education with Arkansas Qualified Teacher (AQT) status in Math. 
  3. Certification in 4-8 and/or 7-12 preferred. Evidence of successful experience in working with students at risk. 
  4. Evidence of ability to work well with others. 
  5. Experience in implementing non-aversive behavioral programs and social skills training. 
  6. Evidence of strong writing and organizational skills. 
  7. Evidence of ability to implement Individual Education Plans. 
  8. Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   2. Supports the vision and mission of Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy by working collaboratively with the administration and ALL staff to create a positive, safe and learner-centered environment.
  3. Demonstrates strong work ethics, a passion for creativity and always open minded to new and innovative ideas.
  4. Serves as a member of the educational management team.
  5. Implements individual educational goals and objectives. 
  6. Collects data on students’ progress. 
  7. Meets with classes as assigned. 
  8. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. 
  9. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 
  10. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 
  11. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. 
  12. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulation. 
  13. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in a fair and just manner. 
  14. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. 
  15. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. 
  16. Performs other duties as the principal/supervisor may, from time to time, assign.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
