JOB SUMMARY:
Seeking a licensed nurse (LPN) that is energetic, outgoing, and enjoys working with elementary school aged children. Our nurse works alongside of the school nurse to assess the healthcare needs of students presenting with symptoms. This is a dynamic position in that the ideal candidate is able to develop rapport with the school’s staff members, parents, and students, in addition to working as a team with the Center’s nursing staff and providers. The school-based nurse’s role is fulfilling and appreciated within the community it serves as the nurse provides care, in a safe and familiar place, for children who may not receive necessary care outside of school, commonly due to lack of essential resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBITIES include the following but are not limited to:
- Perform triage to students presenting with symptoms.
- Collect and result hemoglobin, glucose, strep, flu, COVID, and other diagnostic tests.
- Administer medications and/or treatments as ordered by the provider.
- Provide direct patient care by performing procedures independently.
- Provide patients and parents with education to promote care and prevent illness.
- Perform tele-presenter duties when hosting the sick visit with one of Little River Medical Center’s telehealth providers.
- Develop rapport with the school’s principal, school nurse, and staff members.
- Promote Little River Medical Center’s telehealth program to staff and parents.
- Monitor and track student visit productivity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be licensed as a Practical Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or North Carolina Board of Nursing; familiar with general office procedures; possess considerable knowledge of practical nursing practice and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patient population, LRMC staff and management; be able to perform the essential functions of the job; be able to perform all duties as described in the job description; meet physical demands of the job and have excellent attendance.
EDUCATION and /or EXPERIENCE:
- Active Practical Nurse License in the State of South Carolina or North Carolina based on Residency. And one (1) year of nursing experience, preferably in an ambulatory health care setting.
- Pediatric nursing experience is a plus.
