Little is Hiring a Mechanical Engineer Near Durham, NC

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer for building design with a positive, hands-on, collaborative work style to join our Durham, NC office to elevate our engineering capabilities and further grow dynamic Engineering Studios in every office of Little. Experience should include most of the following project types: civic/government, financial services, retail, high tech/R&D, healthcare, office, interior renovation, higher education, and/or education projects.

Candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • You are curious and creative, have a passion for problem-solving and critical thinking, and able to collaborate in a team setting
  • 8 years of professional experience
  • Professional Licensure;
  • Strong proficiency with Revit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Maintain technical competence by staying current on appropriate codes and technologies.
  • Thorough understanding of the engineering systems within mechanical, plumbing, and energy modeling/building performance analysis
  • Thorough understanding of advanced engineering principles and calculations
  • General understanding of mechanical engineering principles and systems within other disciplines
  • Demonstrated thoroughness in design coordination and contract document development in area of concentration.
  • Demonstrated record of consistent quality work
  • Strong knowledge of construction documentation, specifications, and construction administration
  • Proficiency with thermal load software (such as Trane Trace or HAP), COMCheck, etc.
  • Knowledge of building codes, HVAC design, Hydronic systems design, plumbing design, ASPE and ASHRAE Standards, State Construction Office requirements, etc.
It would be a plus to have some or all of the following qualifications:
  • Professional certifications, such as LEED AP, WELL AP, or ASHRAE certifications (BEMP, HPBD, CHD, etc.), ASPE certifications (CPD, GPD, etc.) or similar certification focused on energy and/or wellness.
  • Experience performing energy modeling and life cycle cost analyses
  • Experience with solar thermal designs, geothermal, siphonic roof drainage design, process & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), etc.
  • Experience with mentoring and teaching junior engineers and designers
Little is made up of Architects, Mechanical, Electrical and Structural Engineers, Land Planners, Landscape Architects & Civil Engineers, Interior Designers, Graphic Designers, CAFM & Strategic Planners and Digital Imaging and Animation specialists.
