LITERACY CONNECTS is Hiring an Annual Fund Director Near Tucson, AZ

Status: Regular, full-time, exempt
Reports to: Chief Development Officer

ORGANIZATION AND MISSION

Literacy Connects is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission of “Connecting people of

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the administrative direction of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Director of the

Annual Fund identifies, cultivates, and acquires appropriate annual fund donors and prospects.

This individual manages a matrix of solicitation and communication strategies all focused on

shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support. Responsibilities include expanding the donor

base, increasing awareness of giving opportunities, matching gift programs, and executing best-

in-class stewardship strategies. The incumbent is responsible for organizing and coordinating

the annual Get Connected and other donor events. The Director of the Annual Fund supervises

a team comprised of the Digital Media Coordinator, Development Associate, and

Communications Associate. This team will increase as the organization grows.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fund Development:

  • Work closely with the CDO to implement a multi-year, strategic annual fund development

plan to grow unrestricted support and increase participation across constituent types

  • Implements strategies to identify and qualify new prospects, make discovery calls, and bui ld

a prospect pool based on new prospects and existing donors.

  • Establish and conduct consistent and meaningful contact and ongoing stewardship activities

with prospects, donors and stakeholders.

  • Qualify prospects and manage prospect disposition for the best ongoing philanthropic

support of Literacy Connects, moving prospects to other members of the Development

Team as appropriate.

  • Manage a 30-50 donor portfolio of leadership-level and corporate gift prospects and

develop a pipeline of major gift prospects in coordination with CDO and the Development

Associate.

  • Track and analyze fundraising and donor-related metrics, including progress toward

fundraising goals, donor retention, success, and ROI of various initiatives.

Leadership:

  • Mentor, supervise, develop, and support Marketing and Development staff including

Development Associate, Digital Media Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, and

others using a supportive and collaborative approach.

  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews with reporting staff.
  • Support and partner with the Marketing Team to oversee the production of traditional and

digital fund development and programmatic communications across a broad array of

channels to promote organizational impact and encourage financial support.

  • Lead the production and implementation of appeal campaigns and other fundraising

communications and strategies as directed by the CDO.

  • Plan and execute Literacy Connects’ annual Get Connected Event and other donor events.
  • Develop an outreach plan around goals of volunteer recruitment, partnerships, and name
recognition that compliments the Development Team’s fundraising plan.
  • Maintain current knowledge of fundraising best practices and share knowledge with staff.
  • Represent Literacy Connects in the community, serving as an ambassador at mission-related

events, conferences, and meetings.

  • Serve as Literacy Connects staff liaison to community groups in coordination with the CDO

and Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional with a successful track record of two to five years of experience in nonprofit

fundraising, including annual giving, sponsorships, and major gifts

  • Excellent team leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, developing staff, and fostering a

positive, collaborative environment.

  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a facilitator to position

communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.

  • Experience working with committees, donors, and non-profit organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience with traditional and

digital formats.

  • Proven project planning, project management, and budgeting skills
  • High level of integrity, diplomacy, maturity, and accountability
  • Strong commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Lifelong learner
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Google Suite, and donor database software;

knowledge of DonorPerfect a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree; bilingual Spanish a plus
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and alignment with the mission of Literacy Connects
  • Ability to provide own transportation to meet with donors and attend employer-related

functions.

COMPENSATION

Literacy Connects offers a competitive salary ($50,000 - $60,000) based on education,

experience, ASU Lodestar Non-Profit Salary Guidelines, and a competitive benefits package.

Hours: Literacy Connects is open 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend

and evening hours will be required with notice. Some remote work is available.
