Lisle Park District is Hiring a Preschool Aide Near Lisle, IL

Gentle Learning Preschool aides are an essential part of our learning environment. Each aide is assigned to a specific classroom for the entire school year. Aides are responsible for assisting in the preschool classroom by carrying out themed activities planned by the classroom teacher. Our preschool aides work with students in small groups to complete projects and work on important readiness skills. Our Preschool aides are nurturing and caring with excellent listening and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience with Early Childhood aged children required
  • Desire to nurture young children’s curiosity and imagination through dynamic and thoughtful play-based lessons and activities
  • Strong communication skills both with children and adults

Planning

  • Prepare classroom for student arrival
  • Ensure all necessary supplies for projects and lessons are gathered and ready for the day
  • Monitor student interactions and redirect behaviors according to teacher’s behavior management plan
  • Help students clean up during transition times
  • Tidy the room while students are in circle time, ensure learning areas are prepared
  • Work with small groups to complete projects. Allow students to create projects with guidance but limited interference to ensure each craft and activity is “child-made”
  • Work and collaborate with preschool teacher to create a nurturing and fun classroom environment for the students

Schedule

  • Preschool Aides work 2, 3 or 5 days depending on assigned class(es)
  • Typically arrive 30 minutes before class time starts to prepare for the day. Stay up to 30 minutes after dismissal to clean up and prepare for the next class day
  • Attend monthly meetings held before school hours
  • Be available for additional “whole school” events throughout the school year as well as training as scheduled
  • Additional hours may be available for assisting with Enrichment Classes, Kids Day Out and seasonal offerings

Student Interaction

  • Encourage the participation of each child, but respect that each child learns and grows at his/her own pace
  • Help children develop empathy and self-awareness
  • Display positive behavior management techniques that encourage growth and learning
  • Interact with children positively from initial greeting to final daily goodbye

Communication

  • Communicate needs or problems with preschool teacher
  • Share ideas with classroom teacher for upcoming themes or events

Work Attitude, Appearance, and Attendance

  • Maintain a positive attitude towards all students and coworkers
  • Be flexible to changing situations
  • Know that your opinions are valued and sharing constructive feedback with manager and teachers is important
  • Practice confidentiality regarding student and staff issues
  • Dress comfortably knowing you will be engaging in play on the floor and getting messy with our students
  • Follow time off protocol when a substitute is needed

Policies and Procedures

  • Adhere to all Park District policies and procedures
  • Stay within provided budget for projects and supplies when applicable
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and fiscal responsibility with materials and supplies, be mindful of supplies on hand before ordering more
  • Conduct first aid procedures as necessary
  • Maintain Park District equipment and the facility
  • Properly complete Park District paperwork such as- accident reports, time sheets, student files, etc.

General

  • Ability to obtain CPR and first aid certification within 3 months of hiring
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Other duties as assigned
