Summary/Objective
The Business Analyst (Insurance Specialist) is responsible for extensive documentation of insurance lines and detailing the focuses into actionable artifacts. This role requires robust knowledge of the insurance industry and how information needs to be collected, documented, and summarized to effectively translate into the technology.
Essential Duties & Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Specifically, this role will be responsible for:
  • Use your broad skillset in the nexus of software and insurance to translate business requirements into artifacts for consumption across the broader organization.
    • Examples of artifacts include use cases, workflow diagrams, and all manner of artifacts which inform both business and technical team members.
  • Within a fast-moving organization, be an agent for capturing detail on how systems currently work, will work in the future, and guide technical teams to bridge gaps as needed in use cases and appropriate documentation.
  • Work in close association with other analysts translating business needs into consumable technical documentation, both for development of insurance lines/offers and for broader foundational software development.
  • Work in close association with QA teams to ensure use cases are appropriately translated into behavior-driven tests and ensure automation/testing coverage.
  • Work in close association with IT Ops and Business Ops teams to develop procedures to ensure proper adherence to standard operating procedures for internal and external platform usage.
  • Initial responsibilities include refactoring existing use cases to represent current-state.
  • Gather and document business requirements from various stakeholders, such as underwriters, agents, brokers, claims adjusters, and policyholders
  • Communicate effectively across business teams and evaluate need to create operational efficiency
  • Establish processes and documentation to create standards of practice (SOPs) for future use
  • Track progress of open items and ensure key stakeholders remain involved and informed
  • Design and test new or improved insurance products, services, and systems, such as policy administration, rating, billing, claims, and reporting
  • Communicate and collaborate with IT developers, testers, and project managers to ensure the delivery of quality solutions that meet the business needs and expectations
  • Provide training and support to end-users and troubleshoot any issues or defects related to the solutions
  • Evaluate and measure the effectiveness and impact of the solutions, using key performance indicators (KPIs) and feedback from stakeholders
  • Prepare and present reports and recommendations to senior management and clients on the outcomes and benefits of the solutions

Qualifications

  • Understanding and proficiency in process & workflow design.
  • Understanding and proficiency in use case development.
  • Understanding and proficiency in process modeling.
  • Understanding and proficiency in underwriting across business lines.
  • Marketing, offer development, and/or management experience.
  • Ability to effectively translate business requirements into tech specs.
  • Previous experience with Jira.
  • Proficiency in enterprise architecture and asset management experience.
  • Proficiency in capability modeling experience.
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to establish and manage processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate at any level individually and within a team.
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment in a global organization and to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Demonstrates respect of diverse skills, personalities, and backgrounds of others at any level in the organization.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or Information Technology required.
  • At least 8 years of direct experience in the Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance industry.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience documenting insurance lines/products/offerings (or similar) and their requirements
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience directly underwriting small to medium sized insurance accounts, preferably working with broker facing systems.
Additional Eligibility Requirements (Certificates, Licenses, Required/Preferred)
  • Certifications in Business Analysis and related fields
  • Certifications in project management
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Expected days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may require long hours and weekend work.
Travel
Occasional travel is expected for this position on an as-needed basis.
