We are looking for a talented mechanical Chemist who will be responsible for supporting chemical, material science and environmental laboratory testing. This position requires a strong level of technical knowledge with simultaneous understanding of performed tests.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate routing testing activities from Customer request to test completion and frequently act as main technical contact for assigned laboratory testing and Customers
  • Responsible for overall performance of assigned laboratory tests or projects including but not limited to timelines, quantity, and quality of generated data
  • Responsible for data reduction, test results, and generation of appropriate chemical or physical properties reports that meet Customer needs and/or test specifications
  • Must understand all the necessary chemical and engineering principles and effectively utilize a combination of software and hardware to meet the needs of the Customer
  • Perform routine testing (hands-on operations) and sample preparation when specific and advanced knowledge and expertise are required and as needed to relieve workload
  • Adhere to Company Policies and internal operating procedures from the ISO 17025 quality system during the measurement/testing process
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe manner using all available safety equipment
  • All other related duties as assigned
  • Possess mental faculties consistent with performing the minimum requirements of the job

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Engineering field or Associate Degree with 4 years relevant work experience in an environmental or corrosion laboratory; equivalent related work experience also acceptable in lieu of education
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental or corrosion laboratory
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven experience with cyclic corrosion, weathering and climatic (temperature and humidity) test methods
  • Proven experience with standard chemical bench top laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, balances, paperman, titration devices, etc.
  • Strong project management skills to coordinate laboratory staff
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to ensure best in class Customer communication
  • Proven experience with sample preparation techniques and ICP-OES
  • Proven experience with Polarized Light Microscope (PLM)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to us a computer
Physical Requirements:
  • This position is located in a testing environment and will involve hands-on work. Physical activity will include lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity or standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to speak verbally, and read in English
  • Ability to see with corrective lenses
  • Ability to hear
  • Ability to walk
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically
  • Able to work evenings and/or weekends as required
