Lincoln University of Missouri is Hiring an Area Educator II - Family, Community, and Consumer Sciences - Kansas City Near KCMO, MO

Purpose:

This position will focus on human, family, and community development and will provide compelling and impactful research-based educational programming that meets the assessed needs of low-income, limited resources families who are underserved and unserved.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Planning, designing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating innovative family, community and consumer sciences programs that demonstrate measurable impact.
  • Will be required to solicit and secure extramural funding in the amount of $500-$5000 during each evaluation period, to include gifts, donations, and may include grant proposal writing.
  • Engaging and collaborating with communities, private entities, social service and commercial organizations, local, county, state and federal governments to deliver cutting-edge programs that address pyscho-social and economic needs of adults living in Missouri communities, including families and seniors.
  • Utilizing research-based information, the Area Educator will offer educational experiences from a wide array of family, community and consumer sciences topics to include, but not limited to: focusing on making healthy choices, nurturing families, embracing life as one ages, promoting healthy homes, families and communities, human nutrition and foods, family resource management, human development and family relations, health, safety and wellness, housing and environment, home-based and micro-businesses and pathways to careers.
  • Utilizing research-based information, the Area Educator will be required to design and produce two engaging fact sheets related to subject matter written at an eighth-grade level or below reading level during each evaluation period.
  • Will be responsible for managing their program budget and the budget of any secured extramural funds.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May include supervisory responsibilities of volunteers, students and program participants.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Regional Coordinator and Cooperative Extension Administrators.
  • May require working on weekends and evenings.
  • May require traveling around the region and occasional travel around and outside of the state of Missouri.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in consumer science, human development, child and family development or a closely related field. The applicant must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with low-income, ethnically diverse individuals from marginalized communities in informal group settings.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

Required:

  1. Strong written and oral communication skills.
  2. Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office- Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  3. Ability to work independently.
  4. Ability to work as part of a larger team.

Preferred:

  1. Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish.

Certifications, Licenses, Registration:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in consumer science, family science, human development, child and family development or a closely related field.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and put away parcels.
  • Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job.
  • Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
  • Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.
  • Normal endurance.
