This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent.


Job Summary
:

The LASH Curriculum Specialist (Literacy, Arts, Social-Science, and Humanities) provides district-wide leadership for curriculum in the designated subject areas. A main focus of the position is in the area of literacy: curriculum development, articulation and implementation, curriculum coherence, data collection and analysis, program assessment, and professional development. The literacy work will be completed under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and in collaboration with school leaders and faculty.

Additionally, the LASH Curriculum Specialist will work with the Assistant Superintendent and school leaders to identify and accomplish academic strategic priorities: ensuring curriculum is congruent with the district’s mission and core values; fostering researched-based best practices in elementary and middle-level education, leading multi-year curriculum review cycles; ensuring consistency of overarching pedagogy, approach, methodology, and scope/sequence; creating professional development opportunities and workshops; and serving as a curriculum/instructional coach, key resource, and consultant to faculty in teaching methods and curriculum delivery.


Requirements
:

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in education or related field.
  • DESE Certification in at least one of the following: Elementary 1-6, Middle School Humanities 5-8, or Reading
  • Experience and expertise in at least two of the three literacy grade-level components within the K-8 grade span: Middle-level (Grades 7-8), Elementary (Grades 4-6), and Primary (Grades K-3).
  • Current or near-future plans to receive administrator/supervisory licensure.


Responsibilities
:

  • Approve and revise with appropriate faculty the curriculum for literacy, English language arts (ELA), visual arts, performing arts, social studies, and world language.
  • Coordinate departmental curriculum objectives and expected student outcomes.
  • Keep abreast of new trends, methodology, program concepts, etc. on a continuing basis.
  • Conduct appropriate in-service programs, professional development, and department meetings.
  • Disseminate information on new developments in literacy, arts, social science, and humanities.
  • Conduct program review according to the curriculum review cycle.
  • Advise and assist the school leaders on intervention, literacy specialist caseloads, literacy specialist intervention methods, and intervention scheduling.
  • Supervise related extracurricular activities.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent in the preparation of reports and statistics required by the district, school
  • Prepare annual budget, reports, and grants related to literacy, arts, social science, and humanities.
  • Analyze assessment data (local and state assessments) and share with school leaders and faculty.
  • Serve as a curriculum/instructional coach, key resource, and consultant to faculty in teaching methods and curriculum delivery
  • Collaborate with other leaders in planning and running new faculty orientation and new faculty development.
  • Serve as liaison to appropriate community and parent groups, including professional organizations.
  • Communicate with various constituencies and stakeholders to articulate and promote strength and direction of the district’s academic program
  • Assume other related duties that the Assistant Superintendent may deem necessary.

  • The LASH Curriculum Specialist will coordinate with stipended lead teachers around curriculum and instructional priorities.
