Description
This is for a classroom assistant in a special needs classroom- in York County PA, school districts.
A Teacher Assistant (TA) assists a teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom, ensuring the continuance of the education program developed by the teacher.
Assists with planning and implementing individual and group strategies for students as so defined by student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Assists in maintaining up-to-date records on each student, describing strategies for each student’s program.
Works closely with teacher as a member of the educational team to continually modify program for each student.
Assists student with dressing, toileting, feeding, and self-care as needed.
Participates in regular staff meetings, if appropriate.
Reads, understands, and is responsible for implementing and documenting behavior plan and/or individualized education program, as appropriate.
Observes and intervenes to redirect inappropriate behavior.
Follows building, classroom, district, and/or organizational policies.
Follows direction of teacher and/or program supervisor.
Assumes any other responsibilities as directed by classroom teacher, program supervisor, Executive Director, and/or Executive Director’s designee.

A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) assists a student with self-sufficiency, communication, interpersonal, social, academic, and mobility skills.
The PCA assists a student in accessing their educational program which could include assistance with balance, visual perceptual activities, fine and/or gross motor skills, boarding/exiting school van, prompts to stay focused.
Assists the student to set up, break down, use, and maintain augmentative communication devices.
Assists the student to use other assistive technology as needed.
Assists the student to ambulate, position, and transfer - Ambulation (walker, crutches, wheelchair, etc.)
Positioning on mats or on/in adaptive equipment
Positioning and transferring in/out of wheelchair
Range of motion and other exercises
Gross motor exercises
Fine motor exercises
Assists with activities of daily living, such as eating, grooming, bathing, toileting, etc.
-Toileting, changing of diapers, and/or changing of menstrual pads, Grooming activities (washing, shaving, combing hair, brushing teeth, etc.) as needed.
Monitors the incidence and prevalence of designated health problems or medical conditions, e.g. seizure precautions or extreme lethargy
Observes and intervenes to redirect inappropriate behavior
Assists, monitors, and guides student to pay attention, participate in activities, and complete tasks
Accompanies student on school buses, vans, or other vehicles, as needed
Consults with other service providers, teachers concerning student’s medical/mental health status and any perceived problems as directed by supervising teacher and/or program supervisor.

Terms of Employment
Full time, 7-hour day, 188 day working year schedule- follows traditional school year schedule EXCEPT preschool.
Salary
ESPA, TA/PCA pay scale, minimum starting rate is $14.15 per hour or $18,621 yearly, plus comprehensive benefits package. Eligible employees who come on to the LIU medical plan gain free access to the Lincoln Health and Wellness Center, located inside of the York Learning Center, York PA.
