Airport Ground Services Supervisor

Introduction

The Airport Ground Services Supervisor supervises and participates in the work of providing ramp and passenger services.

Essential Functions

Supervise
  • Multi-task effectively to include supervision of several crews engaged in multiple simultaneous ground services activities.
  • Communicate effectively with tenants, vendors, subordinates, coworkers, and management.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities with subordinates in accordance with the Lincoln Airport Authority’s policies and applicable laws, including evaluation and training.
Ramp Service
  • Load and unload aircraft cargo, move baggage to and from terminals, and from receiving and dispatching aircraft.
  • Properly organize all luggage onto corresponding flights.
  • Check-in and process passengers and baggage onto the flight.
  • Light cleaning of the aircraft on return flights (flights returning to LNK and departing in 60-90 minutes for the second flight of the day.)
  • Deep clean of aircraft that remain overnight.
  • Stock catering services for each flight.
  • Operate heavy machinery.
Passenger Service
  • Provide check-in counter services for the passengers departing on the customer airlines.
  • Provide gate arrival and departure services. The agents are required to meet a flight on arrival and provide departure services, including boarding passengers and closing flights.
  • Staff the transfer counters and customer service counters.
General
  • Overtime may be required to help serve our customers.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to thoroughly understand and comply with the Airport Security Plan.
  • Knowledge of the principles of facility maintenance.
  • Knowledge and use of, or ability to learn, computer software programs.
  • Knowledge of work hazards, safety procedures, and safety matters.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and review the work and performance of others in a manner conducive to proficient performance and high morale
  • Excellent communication skills to direct employees, coordinate with other departments, answer public inquiries, and enforce rules tactfully but firmly.
  • Effectively supervise and evaluate staff by maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards and adhering to legal regulations.
  • Ability to take initiative and apply considerable ingenuity and practical knowledge to interpret and resolve new, unusual, or particularly troublesome situations.
  • Ability to report conditions and describe situations clearly and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, manuals, and other materials pertaining to facility maintenance, equipment, systems, and repair.
  • Ability to adjust and be flexible in meeting changing work needs and demands.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all employees in all departments.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to deal with pressure and complaints with a pleasant demeanor and respectful attitude.
  • Ability to monitor radio messages while doing other work throughout the day.
  • Flexibility to be available for emergency call-outs during off time.
  • Speak with clarity, and read and write English fluently.

Education and Experience

  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • One year of ground services experience preferred
  • Knowledge of airport operations is preferred.

  • Lift and/or move up to 70 lbs. utilizing safe and proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Safely climb in and out of trucks and up and down stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, and walk.
  • Specific vision abilities are required, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Endure various work environment characteristics, including climatic temperature extremes such as cold, hot, wet, and /or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts/ equipment.
The Lincoln Airport Authority will provide appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.

Safety Requirements

Adherence to standards established in the LAA Employee Handbook, Policy Directives, Airport Rules and Regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures, and all other established safety requirements applicable to the position is required.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high places; in outside weather conditions; and is occasionally exposed, with appropriate PPE, to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Condition of Employment
The employee must meet the essential functions, skills, abilities, etc. listed in this document. The employee must be at least 18 years of age. Successful completion of a pre-employment reference
check, criminal history check (required by the Transportation Security Administration), physical assessment, drug screening and MVR (motor vehicle report), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy. The Lincoln Airport Authority will cover any associated costs for the screenings. The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license while employed, and be insurable under normal rates.
