LILIAN LUMBER COMPANY is Hiring a Lumber Yard Manager Near Burgess, VA

The Lilian Lumber Company has been doing business in the Northern Neck of Virginia for over 110 years and is seeking highly motivated and customer orientated individuals with knowledge of building materials to join our team at our newly expanded Home Center in Burgess, VA.

Job Summary:

The Lumber Yard Manager is expected to maintain a positive representation of The Lilian Lumber Company by providing an outstanding customer service experience consistent with company values. The main task of the Lumber Yard Manager is to assist the General Manager in overseeing an efficient, motivate and productive sales team.

Salary based on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers, both in person and on the phone, answering their questions, helping them find merchandise and suggesting add-on sales that will help them complete their project. This may also include processing special orders.
  • Assist and communicate with customers, management, employees, and delivery personnel.
  • Move throughout the yard to monitor the activities of employees, assist customers, check inventory status, and verify the safety and security of the yard.
  • Assume responsibilities for all yard activities.
  • Supervise yard employees, keeping productivity at peak levels.
  • Supervise customer service in the yard. Resolve customer complaints, if necessary.
  • Develop and maintain receiving, unloading, and delivery schedules.
  • Implement and ensure that all received product has been received per established procedures and any discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Routinely verify counts to ensure system integrity.
  • Initiate and participate in the hiring, and training and development of new employees.
  • Develop and maintain the work schedules of all employees assigned to the yard.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of lumber yard and warehouse employees and provide Human Resources with information on evaluations.
  • Resolve employee conflicts, if appropriate.
  • Maintain a positive work environment for all lumber yard employees.
  • Supervise the maintenance and safe operation of yard equipment, including company trucks, forklifts, carts, pallet jack, saw, etc.
  • Supervise compliance with all store policies to include all health & safety regulations.
  • Make suggestions for rule or policy changes when such changes would improve sales, profits, efficiency, morale, and/or operations in general.
  • Provide a good example for employees under your supervision by following company policies and procedures.
  • Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 5 years of leadership/management experience required, experience in a lumber yard or related environment is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must maintain a good driving record and lawfully operate all company vehicles.
  • Forklift certification is an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to self-manage and prioritize.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work well and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent decision-making ability and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent mathematical skills.
  • Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
  • Comfortable working with computers.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Standing/walking for 8 hours.
  • Lifting and/or carrying of merchandise items, as required, on a regular basis. Merchandise items may vary in weight up to 100 lb.
  • Must be able to adjust to climate changes.
