Lighthouse Surgery Center is Hiring a Registered Nurse Pre-Op/PACU Near Hartford, CT

Our 4 year old ambulatory surgical center is looking for professional, energetic and experienced pre-operative and post anesthesia RNs. This position is responsible for the direct nursing care of patients in both the pre-operative and post-anesthesia phases of care. The ideal candidate is comfortable with and enjoys patient teaching and working in a fast-paced environment. This position will also assist in the procedure room during pain management procedures.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Creates an environment that focuses on compassionate and supportive care for the patient and family.
  • Recognizes changes in the patient/family’s situation and identifies and prioritizes patient/family needs across the continuum of care.
  • Conducts accurate clinical assessments and interprets findings.
  • Establishes priorities, recognizing patterns and trends that may predict the trajectory of illness; reacts to and limits unexpected outcomes.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and mobilizes appropriate resources.
  • Assures and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity and rights of the patient/family.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement/Peer Review committees and others as assigned.
  • Reports issues related to equipment availability, supply distribution and management, unit and system process barriers to the Charge RN and/or Director of Nursing.
  • Orients to charge role and assumes this assignment as needed.
  • In the Charge RN role: leads shift operations, maintains a safe environment of care, and justifies use of staff based off of patient census.
  • Completes all annual organizational and department mandatory education requirements.
  • Participates in educational activities related to clinical knowledge and professional issues and continually seeks knowledge and learning experiences relevant to practice setting.
  • Conducts pre-operative screening phone calls with patients prior to surgery as assigned, and completes post-operative calls as assigned.
  • Open and sensitive to all team members’ unique contributions, and is able to work collaboratively and positively with all colleagues.
  • Recognizes how own actions will affect others and is receptive to being taught, coached and mentored.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical and Mental Effort:

This position requires ability to push/pull/list objects more than 25 lbs., perform difficult manipulative, arm-hand steadiness, and hand-eye coordination skills, walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; see objects close and far away; and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given over long periods of time.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Patient care setting. Extensive mobility required. Employee may be exposed to blood, body tissues or fluids and may be exposed to electro-magnetic radiation.

Experience & Skills:

  • Valid Connecticut Registered Nurse license required
  • Minimum Education required: Associates Degree in Nursing, Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Familiarity with computer-based EMR systems (i.e. EPIC/SIS/Amkai)
  • At least two (2) years’ experience as a Pre-Op/PACU RN
  • Experience with orthopedics preferred
  • Experience in a free-standing ambulatory surgical setting preferred
  • At least one (1) year of critical care experience in an acute care setting required
  • BLS and ACLS required, PALS Certification preferred
  • CPAN or CAPA Certifications desired
