Lighthouse Central Florida is Hiring a Lead Assistive Technology Instructor Near Orlando, FL

Job Summary: Provide Assistive Technology Instructional Services. Provide supervision, support and provide positive leadership for all AT Instructors. Assist in ensuring that all Assistive Technology instruction meets or exceeds contract obligations and professional standards. Lead efforts to identify and effectively implement improvements to the organizations ability to provide effective AT services.

Principal Responsibilities

Direct Service

  • Provide instruction relevant to the needs of each individual client. Instruct clients in the use of an array of adaptive tools and techniques that allow for optimal access to print media, computer data, software, etc.
  • Conduct functional assessments to identify clients individualized goals, technical skills, and appropriate adaptive software needs
  • Develop Individualized Training Plans for assigned clients
  • Provide center-based, community-based, and virtual itinerant instructional services appropriate to the assessed needs and goals of the client
  • Review assessment recommendations with each client

Leadership:

  • Actively support Lighthouse Central Floridas mission, vision, and core values in daily interactions with clients, staff, and all external and internal constituencies
  • Actively participate in agency and team meetings to ensure effective communication, service quality, and teamwork
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures including the completion of required documentation and reports (timesheets, certificates of absence, etc.)
  • Communicate and coordinate the variety of requests, opportunities, and projects requiring the participation or leadership of Assistive Technology services. Advise the Adult Services Manager on the feasibility and value of each, and recommend a course of action.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of the Adult Services Manager in that individuals absence as assigned
  • Assist in the orientation and training of volunteers, agency staff, and AT Instructors on an as needed basis
  • Identify and actively support appropriate involvement of volunteers in the program with guidance from the Adult Service Manger to enhance team effectiveness and efficiency.

Supervision:

  • Provide supervision for all Assistive Technology Instructors and volunteers. This includes, but is not limited to, developing accurate work plans for assigned staff, approving leave requests and timesheets (as needed), and leading AT L-10 meetings.
  • Ensure assigned staff are entering required documentation into the Apricot database in a timely and accurate manner (specific time frame) for no discrepancies
  • Implement a variety of requests, opportunities, and projects requiring the participation or leadership of Assistive Technology services.
  • Provide feedback to the Adult Services Manager regarding the performance of assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with the Adult Services Manager on the completion of Quarterly Conversations and annual reviews of those you supervise
  • Collaborate with your direct reports to foster a positive and productive work environment, coaching for success when necessary

Planning and Service Development

  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies to determine accessibility and compatibility with current hardware and software platforms providing technical training.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of curriculum to meet training demands as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with clients and other stakeholders
  • Lead the development, implementation, evaluation, and refinement of the R360 model
  • Develop engaging curricula, and implement effective lesson plans and activities to align with agency philosophy and achieve all contract deliverables.

Case Management and Reporting:

  • Efficiently navigate the agencys database software to maintain complete, accurate and timely documentation and reports as assigned, to meet agency and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of program participants in accordance with State and Federal regulations
  • Communicate as needed with Division of Blind Services (DBS) counselor(s), Lighthouse Case Managers, and other staff to expedite each client's movement through service delivery.
  • Facilitate the request and receipt of procurement requests

Community Education:

  • Support and assist in collaborative activities with community partners as assigned.
  • Participate in community education and public awareness activities to develop collaboration with other agencies, municipalities, civic organizations, and schools to ensure that vision rehabilitation services are recognized as an important resource to the community and known to individuals who can benefit from services.
  • Develop and implement educational programs/activities to inform employers, educators, parents, elected officials and/or the community at large about the scope, variety, and effectiveness of AT to achieve inclusion and self-actualization

Professional Development:

  • Participate in available continuing education and staff development opportunities.
  • Participate in general agency development activities and events as appropriate and necessary.
  • Participate in agency and department meetings to ensure communication and teamwork
  • Participate as a member of the Rehabilitation Services team and support all aspects of Lighthouse Central Floridas Services
  • Perform other duties as required

Education:

Bachelors Degree or higher

Additional Vision Rehabilitation credential (preferred)

License and/or Certification:

Current certification or actively pursuing one of the following:

  • CATIS (strongly preferred)
  • DBS Assistive Technology Endorsement Certificate

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year experience teaching Access Technology or using Access Technology in an environment working with persons who are blind or visually impaired.

Demonstrated Knowledge and Skills:

  • Possess excellent skills in the use of access technology including speech and magnification software
  • Ability to effectively convey AT skills to a wide variety of clients, adapting teaching methods as needed to accommodate a variety of learning styles
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet
  • Possess an ability to utilize the database for client demographics, documentation and agency reports
  • Professional maturity, judgment and objectivity
  • Capable of working with a variety of personalities and leadership styles
  • Possess effective organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, business professionals, civic organizations, and the general public
  • Ability to work as an effective member of the team
  • Ability to project a positive, compassionate image to clients, co-workers and the public
  • Ability to adapt to and support change
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when appropriate

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move about independently within the facility and in the community we serve
  • Moderate ability to move and lift items usually ranging up to 25 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing upon occasion
  • Prolonged sitting at work station
  • General good health and energetic

Requirements:

  • Pass Level II background checks
  • Possess or be able to utilize reliable transportation
