JOB SUMMARY: The Therapist Registered Intern has training in Substance Abuse or Mental Health (SU/MH) professions and clinical skill and experience to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to persons suffering from a SU/MH illness. The Intern will work with consumers and families under the clinical supervision of a Supervisor. Functions as a clinical member of an assigned program and provides treatment, rehabilitation, and support services or may be designated by the team leader to function as the lead mental health professional.

KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SKILLS: Must have a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems for consumers with a mental health diagnosis (es) or co-occurring mental health and substance abuse diagnoses. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Displays excellent telephone and customer service skills. Must be able to function effectively within a team; however must also be able to function with a high level of autonomy.
PERSONAL QUALITIES: A pleasant and friendly manner is vital to satisfactory job performance. Must display patience and understanding of potentially difficult individuals. Must be alert and vigilant at all times. Dependability and adaptability essential for this position. Must show initiative and be able to work autonomously.
SPECIAL FACTORS: Maintains a professional atmosphere. Provides excellent customer service. Maintains good working relationship with center, as well as, facility staff and external agencies. Works with staff psychiatric staff to coordinate pharmacological management. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
JUDGMENT/DECISION MAKING: Utilizes established corporate policies and procedures in making decisions. Uses sound judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually. Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
