Bloodmobile Driver / Interviewer (CDL required)

Description

The Driver / Interviewer safely transports a commercial and / or passenger vehicle to and from blood drives in the surrounding communities.

Additionally, the Driver interviews and screens donors to ensure it is safe for that person to donate blood. This position involves constant interaction and contact with donors, other employees and the general public.

Routinely drives a Company vehicle as necessary, including a donor coach / bus, to transport team members, equipment and supplies;

ensures safe operation in compliance with all Company policies, procedures and state driving laws; reports any accidents or violations to supervisor immediately

May provide routine vehicle maintenance, such as fueling, inspecting fluid levels, condition of tires, belts, lights, etc.

  • Interacts with prospective blood donors, providing information about Blood Center services and programs, answering questions about donor criteria, and guiding prospective donors through the donation process
  • Interviews and screens potential donors for suitability of donation; this includes obtaining demographic information and medical history and performing mini-physical examination
  • Monitors donors for adverse reaction and administers post-venipuncture care to donors ranging from serving refreshments to caring for donors who may have any type of reaction related to the blood donation process
  • Prepares for blood drives, which includes restocking supplies; packing, lifting, carrying, loading / unloading equipment, setting up supplies and equipment, lifting / carrying portable donor beds and other equipment
  • Follows all policies and procedures issued by the Blood Center, regulatory agencies (i.e. FDA), governmental agencies (i.

e. OSHA), and accrediting agencies (i.e. AABB) and complies with good manufacturing practices (GMP).

  • May perform quality control procedures to determine acceptability of equipment and / or supplies
  • May enter and retrieve donor information into computer system, as required

Beginning rate of pay is $15-16 per hour, commensurate with experience. Upon successful completion of our on-the-job training program, pay will be increased.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Class C commercial driver's license
  • Must be insurable by our commercial auto insurance carrier - at least 21 years of age with 5 years of licensed driving history and possess a valid commercial driver's license;

may not have a conviction for DWI / DUI and no more than two (2) moving violations (tickets) in the past three (3) years

  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) desirable
  • Satisfactorily complete Company Donor Services Training Program and proficiency checks within first 90 days of employment
  • Must satisfactorily complete a company-approved adult CPR / First Aid Course within the first 6 months of employment or possess current CPR certification;

  • Must be dependable, punctual and have effective communication skills
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude toward donors and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of donor information at all times

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT :

  • Must be able to lift equipment, such as portable donor beds, boxes of donor blood, and supplies up to 35 lbs., unassisted
  • Must be able to perform duties which require standing or bending for long periods of time without relief
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, often in excess of 8 hours per day, and weekends
  • Must be able to work with lancets, scissors, human blood, and deal with stressful situations
  • Work involves potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products
