LifeGift is currently looking for a Pediatric Donation Clinical Specialist

Do you possess the attributes to be a successful Pediatric Donation Clinical Specialist and perform the following essential functions?

The PDCS coordinates the organ donation process, focusing on recovery and utilization of organs for transplantation. They maintain a consistent presence at hospitals with pediatric units within LifeGift’s service area, handle referrals and evaluations of potential organ donors, manage medical care for donors, allocate organs, and assist in organ recovery and preservation. Additionally, they participate in donor councils and collaborate with the Donation Systems Specialist at their assigned hospitals.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Adhere to LifeGift, OPTN, and CMS policies.
  • Document and maintain medical information in LifeGift records.
  • Ensure confidentiality of donor information.
  • Maintain accurate and timely post-organ recovery documentation.

Hospital Presence and Collaboration:

  • Maintain consistent presence at pediatric donor hospitals.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal and external partners.
  • Assess dynamics of donor families and work with hospital staff for donor conversations.

Donor Management and Coordination:

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of organ donor cases efficiently.
  • Implement effective donor management with hospital resources, following LifeGift protocols.
  • Coordinate organ recovery, including team communication, OR scheduling, and procedural review.

Organ Allocation and Recovery:

  • Allocate donated organs in collaboration with Organ Placement Specialists.
  • Collaborate on post-organ recovery processes with hospital staff, ME/JP, and funeral homes.

Training and Preparedness:

  • Obtain and maintain proficiency in medical records and databases.
  • Ensure readiness with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Complete assigned training and participate in donor councils and projects as required.

Authorization and Family Interaction:

  • Provide the option for organ donation to next-of-kin, obtain authorization, and conduct donor risk assessments.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve on donor councils.
  • Participate in projects and perform other duties as assigned.

This role requires frequent travel and the ability to commute to different hospital partners within our service area.
