Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Facilitates improvement in the overall quality and completeness of medical record documentation and obtains appropriate documentation through extensive interactions with providers. Performs review of assigned cases with Maryland Hospital Acquired Conditions (MHACs) and ICD-10 code related Quality indicators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Review - Reviews inpatient records concurrently and/or retrospectively to obtain complete clinical documentation of diagnoses.
Review Quality Indicators - Uses resources to determine clinical validity and accurate code assignment of Maryland Hospital Acquired Conditions (MHAC) and other coding related quality indicators.
Educate - On an ongoing basis, educates all members of the patient care team on documentation.
Report - Maintains data and produces reports related to the CDI program and the MHAC reviews.

REQUIREMENTS: Basic professional knowledge; equivalent to a Bachelor's degree; working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized field. Education: 5 Years as a RN, PA, or MD 2-5 years as a CDI Certification: CDIP or CCDS. Experience: 5-7years.

CERTIFICATIONS: Maryland Registered Nurse License; Physician's Assistant; Medical Doctor; CDIP or CCDS.
