Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Client Centered
Have a clear understanding and knowledge of all client support plans and client needs clients that is outlined in their ISP and other support plans
Provide instruction and support with day-to-day living in the areas and methods identified in the person’s Individual Instruction and Support Plan
Advocates for clients, providing additional support so they can acquire personal needs and interact socially with family, friends and in the community
Interact with clients on an ongoing basis
Meet all WAC state training requirements yearly
Identify and respond to any need for medical attention
Participate in mandatory scheduled staff meeting and trainings
Assist in client medications
Provide transportation assistance for clients
Implement, as written, positive behavior support plans (PBSP)
Perform indoor and outdoor cleaning tasks as needed around the program
Accompany clients on outings and activities
Anticipates client needs and delivers high quality service
Provide assistant to arrange for transportation for day to day living for clients
Attend client appointments
Assist clients with money handling and budgeting; write checks for client’s personal items, receives funds for client, deposit client’s funds and may confirm that client check registers are true and correct.
Integrity
Report any suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation to state reporting agency’s immediately.
Maintain confidentiality with all applicable HIPPA laws.

Follow through with commitments
Must maintain satisfactory attendance at regularly scheduled hours
Uses good judgment in providing “need to know’ information

Communicate respectfully and openly with all staff in a timely manner
Complete all documentation as required by Life Works in a timely and accurate manner
Listens effectively and clarifies information as needed
Adaptable
Must be able to prioritize and positively adapt to an environment that is consistently changing and or unexpected obstacles
Must be able to follow directions
Must be able to learn and adapt to different forms of communication (i.e. ASL, etc.)
Provide backup coverage when needed at the program; i.e. illnesses, vacations and other emergencies
Must maintain and complete state annual required 12 hour continuing education classes provided by LifeWorks

Ability to recognize and intervene during clients escalating behaviors

Additional Duties
(If) nurse delegated administer medications to clients who are not physically able to self-administer
Approved signer for checkbooks
Perform financial reconciliation
Transport clients per the Agency’s MVR review and test

Requirements
DSP’s must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Previous experience working with individuals with an intellectual disability, behavioral health and/or medical needs is preferred (but not required).
DSP’s shall have essential physical skills – be able to run, squat, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, be able to lift at least 50 pounds (or ¼ own body weight), push and pull against potential resistance; and be able to implement non-physical and physical interventions and CPR with people supported when needed.
Must be able to lift and transfer clients who need such assistance
DSP’s shall have adequate vision, reading, writing and documentation skills and hearing to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, overnights (as applicable) and holidays.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be able to provide assistance, as needed, in safely loading and unloading vehicle passengers and assist individuals to safety in emergency situations.
Must be able to complete annual FIT testing as required by OSHA
Must complete required TB test (if applicable)
Must obtain criminal clearances as required. These could include: the Washington criminal history check, FBI criminal history check, and child abuse clearances in accordance with DSHS regulations.
Demonstrated ability to adhere to the required schedule for the job.
CHILDRENS PROGRAM ONLY – Must be 21 years of age and have at least six months experience working with vulnerable populations.
