PURPOSE

The Campus Nurse at Life Pacific University oversees the First Aid and Wellness Center (FAWC) throughout the year and is the main point of contact for wellness needs for the LPU community. The FAWC’s purpose is to provide direct care to students, develop policies for the campus community's health, and educate the community on health-related matters. This position reports directly to the VP of Student Life.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Provides first-aid care to students and makes appropriate referrals as needed
• Sets up a daily log to list students who visit the FAWC. Records assessments, care, and any referrals or recommendations made to students
• Meets regularly with LPU students who have chronic health needs to encourage them to maintain optimum wellness
• Makes sure all students have appropriate required immunizations
• Obtains supplies and equipment needed for the FAWC
• Develops policies and procedures for the FAWC
• Plans and implements protocols for students with chronic health problems
• Develops a plan for pandemic disease response
• Develops isolation plans for an infectious disease outbreak in the residence halls
• Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases through preventative education, surveillance, and isolation of contagious students
• Provides health information to assist students in making health-related decisions
• Participates in health education directly by teaching students to become more assertive health consumers and thereby assume greater responsibility for their own health maintenance
• Serves as a resource person to the staff, professors, and administration
• Conducts health and safety workshops to different departments on campus
• Provides basic training to Resident Assistants and ASG student leaders on how to respond to health emergencies

Requirements

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• 10 years of nursing experience highly preferred
• Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing preferred
• Must hold a current California Nursing License
• Strong and exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability to work shift assignments as required by the department
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in all situations.
• Ability to make judgment calls on sensitive, confidential issues.
• Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented.
• Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
• Must agree with the purpose and mission of Life Pacific University in providing a Christian- based higher education for its students.
• Ability to walk long distances, climb, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time
