Position overview / areas of concentration

This job’s key elements include

  • Serving as a communications and organizational hub for the pastors, staff, lay leaders, and congregation, in support and furtherance of the church’s mission and ministry, and with an emphasis on attention to detail
  • Handling logistics for and among various teams as they plan, publicize, and execute events for the church and community
  • Interacting with church members, the general public, and professional contacts
  • Informing and providing in-person support to the pastors and other members of the church staff as needed
  • Maintaining, coordinating and updating the church calendar; performing routine clerical and administrative tasks on a weekly, monthly, or annual basis as required; coordinating with appropriate teams on materials for worship, such as slides and worship music
  • Providing logistical support for children’s and youth ministry as needed
  • Managing and updating the church’s membership management software
  • Producing, editing, proofreading, and improving the church’s online and offline publications, including but not limited to the weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter; monitoring and, as time allows, updating the church website and other digital platforms
  • Coordinating facilities needs, serving as on-site liaison to Properties team

This is a part-time position. Availability Monday through Friday is presumed, with the overall schedule to be agreed upon with the successful candidate.

Personal qualifications

  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ, evidenced in part by membership and regular attendance at a Christian church. This is a ministry position. Candidates must include information on their current church affiliation and, as one of their letters of reference, a written reference from a pastor.

  • Ability to acquire new skills quickly; flexibility and adaptability

Professional qualifications

  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with basic office software (e.g. Microsoft Office or equivalent), desktop publishing applications, and either standard or specialized data management applications. Previous familiarity with Servant Keeper church software is desirable but not required.
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize a rapidly changing list of tasks and needs
  • Ability to accomplish assigned responsibilities independently as necessary

Reporting relationships

The church administrator reports to the senior pastor, who will review the administrator’s job performance after three months, and then annually. The administrator also will work closely with, and receive assignments from, the other pastors and church staff.

Compensation and benefits

At the outset, this position is entitled to two weeks of paid vacation per year; a "week" is defined in terms of the agreed-upon hours per week, and in the first year will accrue at the rate of 1/10 per monthly pay period. After two full years in the position, vacation will increase to three weeks. After four years, vacation will reach the maximum of four weeks per year. Seven paid holidays and 5 unpaid personal days also are included. Unused vacation time, holidays, and personal days do not carry over from year to year.

This position is an “employment at will” position, and three weeks’ notice by the church or by the church administrator is required to terminate employment.
