Job Description

The Laboratory Technician I are an integral part of the Laboratory Operations team and through collaboration with others is responsible for performing the objectives of the Operations Team to support product manufacturing and release from LGC’s Alexandria site! This position will participate in the manufacturing of laboratory consumable products, conduct instrument validation processes, support Quality Control efforts in connection with these work areas, and participate in similar efforts in connection with Alexandria site operations.

The Laboratory Technician may be asked to prepare protocols, reports, summaries, and give oral presentations of results. The Laboratory Technician is expected to be familiar with the scientific background and literature relevant to the projects they are engaged. The work of a Laboratory Technician will be highly focused on product quality and consistency. There will be consistent collaboration with team members from across multiple departments covering a broad range of laboratory instruments and consumable products manufactured at the Alexandria Site!

Areas of Responsibility:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Perform Laboratory Processes: Perform laboratory processes as part of the Laboratory Operations team to produce consistent, high-quality products for internal and external users. These tasks must be driven accurately and follow strict methodologies to meet user requirements and follow the requirements of LGC’s Quality Management System.
  • Document and Present Results: Experimental procedures and subsequent results will be accurately recorded.
  • Product or Instrument Chemistry Validations: Conduct required chemistry test procedures for validation of instrumentation before sale.
  • Assist in Quality Control Processes: Support Quality Control processes for consumable manufacturing efforts as needed.
  • Manage Laboratory Supplies: Assist the department manager in maintaining the inventory of laboratory supplies applied by the Lab Operations team.
  • Maintain Laboratory Equipment: Perform any required routine checks to keep laboratory equipment performing at a high level. This may include weekly or monthly monitoring and execution of basic instrument maintenance routines.
  • Follow Laboratory Safety Practices: Adhere to laboratory safety policies and work with the department manager and Safety Manager to implement new safety procedures as required.
  • Flexibility - Responds as requested to address important initiatives and special projects, and can work independently and collaboratively when needed.
  • Technical Skills - Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and experience using a variety of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Computer Skills - Proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office software
  • Customer Service - Promotes an environment of strong customer service, both internally and externally.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience and/or training: 0-2 years of related post-degree laboratory experience

Preferred:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience and/or training: Working knowledge (1-3 years) of and/or experience utilization of liquid handling equipment and laboratory manufacturing processes.

Technology/Equipment Skills:

  • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel. Use of a web browser. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and automation.
