POSITION SUMMARY
An Outside Salesperson is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with customers based on assigned accounts and potential new accounts by providing superior service. The qualified applicant will be self-motivated and able to operate sales ethically, honestly and with integrity. Excellent phone and verbal communication skills will be crucial to the success of the Outside Salesperson, as well as attention to detail and efficient time management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to the following

  • Sells and services established contractor and/or commercial accounts.
  • Personally visits accounts on job sites or office as necessary.
  • Seeks to create a “business partnership” relationship with accounts. Recommends product, productivity, and service efficiencies to cultivate account relationships.
  • Provides customers with bids or quotes and material estimates for various materials packages.
  • Maintains pricing flexibility within the guidelines established by the Location Manager or Senior Management.
  • Improves sales volume and gross profit margins.
  • Locates special order products for personal accounts.
  • Prospects for new, target accounts and maintains a profile of their needs and current suppliers.
  • Assists in securing information regarding creditworthiness of accounts. Assists in credit collections as necessary.
  • Coordinates the timely delivery of materials for orders placed by accounts.
  • Informs Location Manager of material and service needs of customers as well as various competitive price levels in the marketplace.
  • Participates in local building materials and construction related organizations and associations.
  • Provides location management with necessary plans, reports, and account data as requested.

  • Current sales volume to builder/contractor/commercial accounts a minimum of $2.0 million annually.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Exceptional influence skills; comfortable in working at various levels throughout an organization.
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Moderate degree of analytical skill, reasoning ability, critical thinking.
  • Working knowledge of materials and associated estimating techniques. Able to demonstrate knowledge of mathematical requirements involved in pricing and estimating to include, but not limited to mark-up, gross profit calculation, square footage and area calculation, perimeter, etc.
