Description

Summary

The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing selection, ordering, receiving, pricing, stocking, and promotion of natural food products for the produce department to meet goals for sales, margin, inventory turns and labor costs 

Requirements

Essential Responsibilities and Functions

· Answer customer questions and provide product information, samples, and educational materials.

· Exceed customer expectations when resolving customer complaints.

· Supervise department on a day-to-day basis.

· Lead the hiring and performance evaluations of staff.

· Communicate changes in store policies and procedures to staff.

· Maintain food safety practices and product rotation for product shelf life, quality, and safety.

· Ensure proper storage and labeling procedures.

· Lead and participate in department inventory.

· Train new hires and newly assigned team members.

· Price produce to achieve margin and sales goals, while maintaining a competitive image.

· Receive produce deliveries, following established receiving procedures.

· Coordinate special deals and promotions to ensure adequate and timely supply of promoted products.

· Prepare department schedule within the department payroll allocation.

· Plan, build or delegate attractive produce displays and signage, that are clear and consistent.

· Participate in development of department operating and capital budgets.

· Adhere and model all safety rules and sanitation programs.

Other Duties

· Perform Manager on Duty responsibilities.

· Train in all security procedures.

· Live the Culture Values.

· Follow co-op policies and procedures.

· Attend and participate in Open Book Management and team meetings as required.

· Arrange tours of local farms for staff education.

· Perform other tasks as assigned.

· Regularly required to stand; walk; bend; stoop; squat; kneel; climb; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; smell; and use sufficient finger and hand dexterity to grasp and hold items of different sizes.

· Occasionally required to sit.

· Regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds.

· Occasionally lift, carry, and/or move up to 75 pounds.

· Regularly use of sharp cutting instruments.

· Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

· Ability to read register screen, product labels and shelf labels.

· Ability to use computer keyboard, monitor, mouse, telephone, and various office equipment frequently

Education & Experience

· 3 or more years’ experience in customer service.

· 3 years supervisory experience preferred.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office system
