Position Summary

The Welder/Fitter is responsible for laying out and welding fabricated material to assemble structural forms. This position is deemed safety sensitive due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee s co-workers, and/or the public at large.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Select equipment and plan layout, assembly, and welding.
• Lay out, position, align and fit components together.
• Bolt and weld parts, using arc, gas, or submerged arc welding equipment.
• Assemble parts by bolting and riveting.
• Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch and hand tools.
• Assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building/bridge parts.
• The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years experience as welder/fitter, either on a construction job site or structural steel fabrication shop. Must be able to pass a welding test and a written fitters test. Must be able to read and comprehend welding instructions/structural drawings. Must have all required tools.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift 100 lbs. frequently, climb up on and balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairs and structural steel to heights in excess of 300 feet. Must have excellent vision either naturally or with correction. Must be able to stand for long periods; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to reach hard to get at work areas; and use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects. Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations. Must be able to work overtime and weekend work. All of the physical demands listed are essential functions.
