Primary Purpose of Position:

This role is integral to our $30 million Choice Neighborhood Implementation Grant, a groundbreaking initiative to improve and shape the Tree Street neighborhood for people living in Lewiston now and future generations. The Education Liaison is an experienced, highly motivated, and creative professional who is responsible for establishing relationships with Lewiston’s education partners, ensuring Choice residents are connected to high-quality programs for children from early childhood through high school graduation. The Education Liaison will develop individual action plans for high need or urgent situations and maintain relationships with essential staff at the schools, early learning programs and childcare centers that Choice students attend as well as bridge the gap between parents of Choice students and the school system. The Education Liaison will complete these tasks at all levels of the education continuum: early childhood education, elementary school, high school, and summer and out-of-school time. The Education Liaison will problem-solve system-level barriers and work directly with Resident Success Coaches to support students and their parents to sustain opportunity during transformational redevelopment and revitalization.

Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with social workers and principals of all schools attended by children covered by the Choice program
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners outside the school system who provide after-school and summertime activities
  • Maintain a database of all school-aged children receiving case management supports including school attended, academic performance, behavioral and mental health needs
  • Develop individualized action plans to address concerns in academic performance, attendance, or conduct, in collaboration with Resident Success Coaches and parents
  • Identify high quality early learning programs and collaborate with Resident Success Coaches to connect parents of children birth-5yo to them
  • Collaborate with parents and teachers to assess kindergarten readiness
  • Identify current parent engagement activities in each school and collaborate with Resident Success Coaches to connect parents to them
  • Identify out-of-school time enrichment programs and collaborate with Resident Success Coaches to connect parents of school-aged children to them
  • Connect high-school juniors and seniors to college or career exposure and planning programs
  • Maintain detailed records of communication and activities with schools and community partners, and submit monthly progress reports
  • Bring educational opportunities such as tutoring and homework help to the Choice residents
  • Attend certain Team meetings, Case Conferencing, Community meetings and Resident meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • A passion for serving and empowering marginalized, socio-economic, diverse people groups
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Public Administration or related field is preferred but not required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience full-time or equated professional experience in case management, community organizing, or community health programs, or other applicable field
  • Experience working in a public-school setting is a plus
  • Good conflict management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Competency in MS Office and relevant databases and software
  • Customer focus and experience working with marginalized populations
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to convey empathy
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to work independently and manage time
  • Multilingual preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.73 - $24.27 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
