Job Summary and Qualifications

1. Prepares and dispenses medications (under the supervision of a pharmacist), including sterile, and parenteral nutrition preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.*

2. Distributes controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.*

3. Participates in the quality improvement and medication-use review activities of the department. Collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; and maintains logs, records, and other documentation as assigned.*

4. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.*

5. Completes monthly inspection of nursing units and pharmacy areas*.

6. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel. Answers requests at the window.

7. Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well-organized.

8. Maintains current licensure/registration.

9. Attends orientation, education, and training programs.

10. Completes all competence/skills assessment requirements.*

11. Attends meetings and participates in committees as required

• Adheres to health system and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, medication-use safety, security, fire safety, and infection control. Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information. Complies with HIPAA Privacy Rule standards.
• Performs work within specified time frames. Adapts positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or work schedule.

What qualifications you will need:

EXPERIENCE

Required - Prior pharmacy technician experience

Preferred – Training in hospital pharmacy and IV admixture

EDUCATION

Required - Registration with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy

Preferred - advanced training in sciences and/or math and/or Pharmacy Technician training course

Hours: Full time, mixed shifts
