Responsibilities

Ophthalmic Technician Responsibilities:

  • Test and measure patient eye function
  • Assist Ophthalmologist with tests and treatment
  • Assess complete spectrum of ocular problems: cataracts, glaucoma, retina, neurology, trauma, etc.
  • Measure visual acuities
  • Take patient history (ocular, medical, family)
  • Pupil assessment
  • Keratometry measurements
  • Refracting
  • Color and vision testing
  • Schirmer testing
  • Lensometry
  • Motilities
  • Stereo testing
  • Amsler Grid testing
  • Angle assessment
  • Fundus Photography
  • Drop Administration
  • Stock back offices and clean
  • Clean and sterilize instruments
  • Prescription refills
  • Triage referring doctor questions and needs
  • Prepping medical charts

Qualifications

The Ophthalmic Technician Qualifications:

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be reliable, trustworthy and consitent
  • Be a well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail
  • Highly energetic with positive attitude
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting
