The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center is a non-profit, social service agency founded upon Jewish ethics and values. The Center provides and initiates diversified social, educational, recreational and cultural programs within a Jewish setting. The JCC is a partner in serving the community, is affiliated with the JCC Association of North America and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte and United Way.

Qualifications / Attributes:

The Lifeguard must demonstrate the ability to be open to give and receive feedback in a respectful manner, be an active and respectful listener, be encouraging and supportive of new ideas and suggestions, be a user and receiver of varied means of communication and be consistent in their delivery of service and interactions with members and colleagues. He/She must also be timely, specific & clear with expectations, and hold one-self and others accountable. These leadership qualities are expectations of the position and help the Levine JCC to maintain integrity and build a cohesive team.

POSITION PURPOSE:

To maintain supervision of all patrons who utilize the LJCC Aquatics facilities and to ensure for their safety by preventing and responding to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acting immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • With specificity, the Lifeguard will:
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required, until he arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service as outlined by the LJCC in manuals, orientations, and ongoing professional development.
  • Perform various maintenance tasks and duties as directed by Aquatics Leadership Staff in order to maintain a clean and safe aquatics facility.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with their supervisors including, but not limited regularly checking their Digiquatics account, email, and text messages for updates, communication, signing up for shifts, etc.
  • Ensure that an environment which fosters maximum physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development is developed and maintained.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
  • Completes miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Completes various administrative tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • CPR/AED/First Aid (included with Lifeguard Certification) by a recognized source of training and accreditation.
  • Lifeguard Certification by a recognized source of training and accreditation.
  • A minimum of 15 (fifteen) years of age
  • Lifeguard experience, preferably 1-2 years.
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.

Must also have the ability to maintain a flexible working schedule to accommodate the needs of the agency and Aquatics facilities, work as part of a team with other staff members and program users. 

Must promote high standards of program excellence; resolve conflict effectively and demonstrate maturity as well as the ability to get along with a variety of people; and respond effectively to constructive criticism and give constructive feedback to colleagues. 

Must be physically capable of manual labor that includes lifting, bending, and reaching. Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis. 

Must be able to reach overhead and to the floor repeatedly in a shift. Must be able to work 8 hour shifts standing. After successful completion of the lifeguard course, the expectation is they can save someone from the water and lift the person out of the water.
