Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Accountant is a dynamic and detail oriented member of the accounting team, responsible for various monthly financial close duties including inventory and cost of sale reconciliations, accrual and reclass journal entries, and gross profit analysis and reporting. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 60% - A primary point of contact for store management personnel, the Associate Accountant is a critical business partner helping to analyze, investigate and resolve month end inventory and gross profit variances. Reconcile general ledger accounts to supporting documentation and source systems, identify discrepancies and work collaboratively to remediate errors. Assist with maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger. 20% - Communicate with store personnel via phone and email to resolve purchase order discrepancies, identify missing data, and correct receiving errors. Troubleshoot errors and work with appropriate individuals and departments to resolve them. 10% - Create and record journal entries and other transactions in the general ledger as needed. 10% - Participate in and support other team members across the accounting department as needed for software and process implementations, and other accounting projects as assigned. Assist Supervisor in providing support and documentation to external auditors during annual audit. MINIMUM EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED: Educational/Experience Requirements: Associate Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience. Two plus years of corporate accounting experience preferred, including financial close, reconciliations, analysis and reporting. Required Technical Skills/Knowledge: Understanding of inventory management, cost accounting, and gross profit analysis. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in financial reporting. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Primary skills and tools: Working PC skills including Excel, Word, Google Suite, Netsuite or working knowledge of similar general ledger and ERP systems.
