Leroy Springs is Hiring a Trail Guide / Equestrian Attendant (SMM) Near Spruce, NC
OverviewUnder supervision provides guided trail rides with exceptional customer service to guests. Cares for horses while promoting a fun, productive and safe environment. Protects the health of horses and improves their appearance. Prepares horses for daily activities of feeding, exercising and training. Key Functions
Daily cleaning of barn (i.e. stall cleaning & picking, cleans saddles and bridles, sweeping, cobwebbing, cleaning of necessary supplies and equipment etc.)
Daily feeding and watering of horses
Daily horse care (i.e. grooms, washes, brushes, trims and curries horses coats to clean and improve their appearance, tacking and untacking etc.)
Daily monitoring of the health and well-being of each horse; reports issues or concerns to supervisor
Guides safe and enjoyable trail rides for guest; goes over safety rules, explains how to control horse on rides; fits guest with helmet and adjust saddle
Unloads and stores feed and supplies
Assists in maintaining inventory and proper storage of feed and supplies
Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations
Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS And ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic horse health, first aid and nutrition
Knowledgeable of resort offerings and activates and points of interest in the surrounding area
Ability to remain calm, think clearly and act quickly and effectively in emergency situations
Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Excellent customer service and effective communication skills
Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays
Minimum QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school education or equivalent preferred; supplemented by one to two years of equestrian experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Prior knowledge of horses and equine behavior
Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training; will train

While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently exposed to loud noises and odors. Stands and walks for extended periods of time. Frequently performs moderate lifting and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. While performing the semi-manual duties of this job, the employee works in hot, and humid weather conditions. The employee is exposed to assorted soaps, sprays, horse manure, disinfectants, medicines, and odors associated with animal barns. Position may involve riding, exercising and lunging of horses.
