Job Description

About Gestalt Community Schools Gestalt is the only charter network in Memphis that puts as much emphasis on the out-of-school factors that could hinder a child from succeeding as on the in-school culture and academics. While we focus first and foremost on the scholars, we also work to rebuild and revitalize the communities where our scholars live and learn, which widens our impact. Moving forward, we're now working on an innovative method to measure the impact we make on the community, and to track how improving the community makes a positive change for the students. About the K-12 Director of Schools Position As a Director of Schools, you will work with the school principals to drive systemic change by creating and developing a shared vision of what excellent instruction looks like. The successful candidate will coach current school leaders to operationalize that vision by developing their instructional expertise, identify gaps, and help them determine where to prioritize and focus their time as a school leader to best enable deeper learning in their school. The principal supervisor is a continuous presence in the school -- a member of the community, not a visitor. Learning is continuous. Specific responsibilities include: * Facilitating weekly goals-based coaching aligned to GCS academic program priorities and differentiated for individual leader and school needs and context * Designing and facilitating monthly professional development for new and veteran school leaders Key Responsibilities Gestalt Community Schools is looking for an amazing person who has a diverse background and experience, who is inspired by our mission, and highly motivated to change children's lives through education. The Director of Schools will spend most of their time -- 63 percent -- in schools or meeting with principals. This shift means you are working directly with principals, engaging in new routines and practices, such as participating in classroom walk-throughs, coaching, leading collaborative learning, and providing ongoing feedback. We expect our Director of Schools to bring a distinguished track record in school leadership. You have coached school leaders or led schools that achieved great things for their students and believe a strong school leader is essential to the success of a school. The Director of Schools will demonstrate expertise in facilitating powerful learning experiences for adults. In this role you will excel at designing and implementing professional development experiences and have the content expertise to create rich training materials, conceptualize meaningful interactive learning experiences, and facilitate training sessions for school leaders that help them shift their practice and support them in implementing learning experiences at the campus level. The Director of Schools will propose innovative solutions to complex challenges. You have a history of tackling high-stakes challenges head-on and moving work forward toward successful outcomes. Ambiguity doesn't overwhelm you; just the opposite, you thrive on it. Your creative instincts will help you deal with vague situations and develop new approaches with limited guidance. The Director of Schools will influence leaders to act. You'll regularly interact with and be expected to influence clients - motivating them to make both incremental changes and take quantum leaps. The Director of Schools will embrace cross-cultural agility. Authentic self-reflection, self-awareness, and high emotional intelligence are central to who you are, and you utilize these skills to contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. You have an adept cultural understanding of yourself and use your understanding of yourself and others to build trusting relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. The Director of Schools will be masterful at building relationships. You have the ability to connect and build relationships with diverse communities. Bilingual abilities are a plus, Spanish language is preferred. Requirements Qualifications * Previous experience as a school principal and a proven track record of raising student achievement is required. * Experience coaching and facilitating professional development for school leaders and teachers is required. * Immediate understanding of what effective teaching looks like and a deep commitment to effective instruction is required. * Strong familiarity and expertise with College and Career-Ready Standards, such as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) (preferred) * Ability to track and analyze performance data to uncover trends and act strategically and effectively to improve results * Ability to communicate compelling feedback that motivates leaders, develops instructional practice and accelerates student achievement * Comfort modeling and engaging in courageous conversations * Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, including the ability to collaborate, and attain and grow effective partnersh
