Description

Established in the Blue Ridge foothills of North Carolina in 1963, Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is a manufacturer and distributor whose product lines include storage buildings, cargo and utility trailers, truck covers, truck and van accessories, carports, playhouses, chicken coops, and dog houses. We serve our residential, commercial, fleet, and government customers through our 150 retail store locations in eighteen states, supported by our corporate offices (in Mount Airy, NC, and Cobden, IL), distribution centers, and strategically located manufacturing facilities.

Job Summary:

The Lot Porter has operations in the U.S. and has overall responsibility for the organization, cleanliness, and presentation of the truck accessories section within an automotive dealership or retail store. The Lot Porter will assist customers with their accessory needs, maintain inventory, and support the sales team in delivering a seamless customer experience. This position reports directly to the Store Manager and does not have direct reports.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive a forklift daily.
  • Maintains the truck accessories lot in a clean, and orderly manner. 
  • Arranges accessories and displays items neatly to enhance product visibility.
  • Regularly inspects accessories for any damage or defects, and report issues to the store manager.
  • Assists in receiving, inspecting, and stocking incoming truck accessories. 
  • Keeps track of inventory levels and notifies management when reordering is necessary.
  • Helps with loading and unloading of parts from delivery trucks, using appropriate equipment.
  • Greets customers and provides friendly, helpful assistance with their accessory inquiries. 
  • Answers questions about products, availability, and compatibility with different truck models.
  • Demonstrates the use and benefits of various truck accessories to customers upon request. 
  • Coordinates accessory installation services.
  • Follows up with customers after accessory installations to ensure satisfaction and addresses any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Ensures all truck accessories are correctly priced, labeled, and have appropriate product information displayed. 
  • Keeps displays and signage updated and in good condition.
  • Complies with all safety procedures and regulations.

Competencies (skills, knowledge, and abilities):

  • Must PASS a drug test and background check.
  • Knowledge of aftermarket truck accessories including bumpers, steps, wheels, tires, lift kits, and lighting preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proven track record of honesty, integrity, and dependability.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
  • Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, and extended hours if needed.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification from a vocational school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

Travel:

This position does not require travel.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, such as automotive parts or tools.
  • Physical stamina to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in awkward and cramped positions.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to repeat the same or similar movements.
  • Good vision, including depth perception for accurate vehicle operation.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, in a shop environment.
