POSITION TITLE: Exceptional Student Services Coordinator

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The job of the Exceptional Student Services Coordinator (K-12) is responsible for working collaboratively with campus teachers and Instructional Coaches to support instruction and improve academic outcomes for students with disabilities. The ESS Coordinator participates in the development of the schools SPED and 504 program by providing instructional expertise and ensuring all compliance requirements are met.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Collaborate with related service providers and general education staff in the implementation of accommodations and modifications

  • Draft and maintain IEPs, Prior Written Notices, and evaluation paperwork, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines

  • Plan and facilitate meetings throughout the special education process

  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with parents, staff, and administrative staff regarding student planning and progress

  • Manage the transition of new enrollees eligible for special education and related services

  • Complete classroom observations collect data and include in current IEPs.

  • Prepare and complete Child Find, FERPA, Accommodation Modification And 504 trainings

  • Provide school leader with feedback for teacher evaluations

  • Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students varying needs

  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations

  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school

  • Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary

  • Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings

  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs

  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution

  • Meet Exceptional Student Services education requirements of school and state

  • Special Education Certification

  • Relevant special education teaching experience of 5 or more years, experience developing and planning specially designed instruction based on student IEPs and experience with case management and coordination of services

  • Knowledge of relevant technology

  • IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
