GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESThis is a professional position that assists the Sports Sales Staff in the development, promotion, event operations, and sales of the destination to sports and events rights-holders for the purpose of securing/hosting numerous and varied state, regional, national, and international athletic competitions, and championship events to increase the economic impact of sports tourism and increase awareness of Tallahassee/Leon County as a visitor destination. Sports tourism is a major, complex, and high-profile program with various activities and considerable contact with state, regional, and national leaders to secure, develop, coordinate, and host large public sporting events at numerous facilities and venues in the destination. This position works directly with Sports Sales and Event Management.ESSENTIAL DUTIESAssists in the day to day sales and services functions of the Sports Sales Department; event servicing needs, working with industry partners and promoters to execute sports events; tracks the annual Sports Sales budget, and the Sports Event Grant program; Coordinates with the Sports Sales manager preparing bids/proposals, site inspections, FAM Tours, educational site visits, and blitzes.Assists in the management of the Sports Event Grant Program, Tallahassee Sports Council, contract execution, invoice processing, and post-event analysis; supervising, directing, and coordinating personnel, subcontractors, volunteers, and vendors.Assists the sports sales program by researching, prospecting, and soliciting new sports related business, identifying and maintaining revenue opportunities for sports events and supporting sports events including hotel leads, room blocks, and team registration. Works closely with the marketing department to develop customized sports sales material, and presentations for online social presence, various sports audiences, and events.Responsible for securing vendor services and products needed for hosted and supported sports events, event setup and event operational requirements.Participate in all sports event planning meetings, manage volunteer programs, and work with vendors and partners to confirm staffing levels for each event. Assist Sports Sales Manager with budget management for all sports events.OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIESNone.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of the tourism industry, primarily sports and group travel market as well as hotel sales. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and multi-task. Ability to be creative, detail-oriented, and excellent time management skills. Ability to travel and work weekends, holidays and evenings, as necessary. Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Ability to function with the highest ethical standards. Experience with Building Information Modeling preferred.COMPLEXITY OF WORKEmployee must be able to work independently when attending sales conferences/shows or when communicating directly with targeted audience segments. Employee must be able to exercise independent judgment in situations which may not fall within established procedures.INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACTInternal contact with department staff. Considerable external contact with industry stakeholders and customers.EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USEDPersonal computer; word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; specialized software such as iDSS; adding machine/basic calculator; operation of a car and/or light truck, operate ATV Type Vehicle.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular walking for periods of time. Must be able to lift/push/pull in excess of 20lbs. May need to stand for long periods of time. May need to stoop/kneel/crouch. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSRequires a Bachelor's degree in Sports Event Management, Business, or Marketing, or a related field, and a minimum of three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess a valid State of Florida Class "E" Operator's License and have a favorable driving record.Selection Guidelines: Formal application, rating of education and experience, oral interview, reference check and drug testing.FLSA STATUS: Position is Exempt.
